I plan on at least riding the train once it is running in the afternoon. I'm not sure I'll go to the ceremony at my nearest station (Clearfield's is at 9:00 AM), but I'll definitely go for a ride later in the afternoon.

its really excting to see SLC embracing mass transit. There are a lot of cities that are larger in area and population that dont even have light rail, or heavy rail. So, this is a big step up for SLC.

LEHI, Utah (AP) -- A controversial proposal for a new freeway in north Utah County has been shelved.

Utah Department of Transportation officials say they may return to the idea of Mountain View freeway at 2100 North but, for now, it's off the table.

Instead, officials say, a new east-west connector at 2100 North will be built as soon as possible, with two lanes and traffic signals in each direction, using $130 million of state funding.

What is up with Lehi? Crud! I've covered this stupid story sooooooo many times, and frankly most people in Lehi don't give a rip. I even talked with one guy who had his house in the path of 2100 North and he said "I don't care. They just need to do something."

It's Mayor Howard Johnson who (despite being a nice guy in person) is the biggest NIMBY to walk the face of the County.

Ughhhh!!!!

Well, I suppose you all can see I'm mildly irritated.

I see how you feel I-215. Putting the lehi freeway project on hold doesn't make much sense since the traffic there gets worst everyday. Let's get Frontrunner and trax down here NOW!

The Lehi part makes me wonder what will happen with the rest of the MVC.

Will it just end when it nears Lehi just after an on/off ramp set?

There are highways like this in Alabama and Georgia that just end at the on/off ramps where it looks like they could have continued further.

I would really hate for this to happen in Utah as if the MVC just ends, the usefulness of the highway will dry up as it won't meet its need.

One thing that has always bug me was the I-215. I should of gone more South. But it turns at around 6000th South in Taylorsville. I think that it was poor planning. It should of gone all the way down to at least 9000 or 10600 S. in South Jordan. Sure I know back then those cities were farmlands, but UDOT should of planned ahead. Think of all the people living in South Jordan, Riverton and buffdale. People have to drive clear out to the Eastside to get on 1-15. That's why roads like 9000th, 10600th and 12300th South are always a mess.

^^^^ But then people in the middle of the valley wouldn't have a freeway, so it wouldn't have solved anything to have it all the way to 106th instead.

What they should have done a long time ago was plan for growth. 20-30 years ago, no one ever imagined the south end of the Salt Lake Valley/north end of Utah County would ever grow as much as it has. It is rule #1 in my book when it comes to urban planning: Never think your city won't grow. Even though they didn't anticipate the growth, they should have set aside land for things like freeways.

Now they are going to have huge traffic problems, which will mean more pollution because people are just sitting in traffic getting 0 MPG instead of getting where they need to go.

Good to see Salt Lake up there in the rankings. With everything that is coming online and thats under construction, it won't be long before we're in the top 10.

It's a great day for Transit in the Wasatch Front. I'm getting ready to head out to the SL Station for the ceremonies and a ride.

If you are going from SLC, I called UTA this morning and there will be a shuttle from the Arena Trax to the Central Station, as the TRAX line will start tomorrow morning.

I still haven't heard if there is Wi-fi on the trains. I know some of the express busses had wi-fi, just think that would be a great option on Frontrunner too!

P.S. As the TRAX lines now have three more stations, all schedules will change on Sunday along with many bus routes. The new schedules are posted here:

Metro, I wanted to ride it so bad, I have a student UTA pass so I can go back next weekend and still ride for free with fewer crowds. The line was so very long (almost back to the hub building), very nice to see a great turn out for its debut. This is so exciting.

I cant wait till I can take Trax to the Hub and then on to Frontrunner!

Hey steven, I rode TRAX from SL Central to Planetarium, they had special trains running from Arena to Central and back, but no, the Sandy/Univ lines are still stopping at Arena today. Tomorrow am they will go all the way through. I also walked from Arena to Central to take pics along the new route.

My wife and I were thinking of going but she ended up having to work. Hope to ride it this upcoming weekend if we make it down to Taylorsville to see my mother.

wonder if they mind if I take my dog who is a very nice and well trained dog. Or should I just get on with her and see how far I can get with her on the train?
