Project: Lincoln Lane North

Quote:
Lincoln Lane North, the alley behind Lincoln Lane that will someday be an awesome little shopping corridor just off Lincoln Road itself, is getting some new development in the form of two new retail buildings being built by Terranova and designed by Shulman+Associates (the design architects). The multistory buildings will house retail and will further the development of South Beach's urban core.

400 South Miami Ave could be 928 feet. Plans for the FAA indicate this height.

Zaha Hadid's 1000 Museum Tower breaks ground

"One Thousand Museum, the tower designed by starchitect Zaha Hadid on Biscayne Boulevard in Downtown Miami, had its ground broken today by Zaha herself. There were black & white M&M's for snacking, Zaha was radiant, and dirt was ceremonially thrown.

At 706 ft.|215 meters this will be Miami's 14th. building over 500 ft.| 152 m currently under construction! It's about time!

^ Thanks for the list. A decade ago Miami only had 5 buildings over 500 feet and today it has 30 towers over that height with 14 more U/C. We will surpass Houston in that category in a couple of years for the #3 spot in the US.

Massive Ferris wheel proposed over Miami boat slip

Quote:
Over the past three years, Valdes, his brother and his two sons have quietly developed a series of plans to design, build and finance a monumental theme-park attraction in South Florida. Valdes, 56, says they have shopped their idea during meetings with numerous politicians and government officials, at first hoping to receive approval to build at PortMiami, then Fort Lauderdale’s Swimming Hall of Fame, then the vacant lot behind the AmericanAirlines Arena.
What do you think? A new Ferris Wheel?

I love the idea of the wheel.....!
We live in a tourist city, so we need more things like the Skyrise and the Wheel to bring people into town and they end up spending more money here....!

Hell No! Miami is not Orlando! We don't need a tacky "Ferris Wheel" to attract tourists!

Movie studio breaking ground in Miami

Quote:
The film industry in Miami is about to get a big asset as a movie studio is set to break ground.

The EUE Screen Gems Studio's ground breaking event will take place Friday at 1 p.m. at 50 N.W. 14th Street. The 70,000-square-foot production studio is being built on land leased from the Omni Community Redevelopment Agency, which is contributing $11.5 million to the project. It will be run by EUE Screen Gems COO Chris Cooney, whose companies have worked on many TV shows and movies.

The facility will have two 15,000-square-foot film and sound stages with 50-foot roofs plus 12,000 square feet of offices, editing suites and accessory rooms. It should open in late summer 2015.

Sunny Isles Approves 19-Story Hotel On West Side Of Collins Avenue

Quote:
A controversial Residence Inn by Marriott was approved for the west side of Collins Avenue in Sunny Isles Beach last month.

Despite protests by local residents who complained of traffic issues, commissioners approved the 19-story hotel at 17700 Collins Avenue. It will replace the Wings tourist shop on a narrow, 31,900-square-foot lot.

The 194-room hotel was approved as-of-right and without any variances, and the mayor noted that denying the application could subject the city to lawsuit.

Robert Finvarb is the developer, and Kobi Karp is the architect. The two have also paired on several other local hotels, including the Hyatt South Beach and AC Hotel by Marriott, both of which are currently under construction.

Yet everyone seems to want a pitifully cheesy-looking tower on the bayfront.

Yet everyone seems to want an embarassingly classless casino/hotel/condo development complex on the Herald site.

Yet everyone seems to want 2 more mega shopping mall developments in the middle of the urban core.

But no, Miami is not Olrando...

2500 Biscayne Construction Permit In Process, Work To Begin In Early 2015

Quote:
New York developer Greystone & Co has filed for a phased construction permit to begin work on 2500 Biscayne. Construction will begin in early 2015, according to the developer’s website.

The developer has approval to partially demolish and restore a historic structure on the site and build a 20-story residential tower designed by architect Behar Font & Partners of Coral gables.

There will be 156 ‘unique’ rental apartments, and the luxury project will be ‘fully amenitized’. A full block of retail will be offered on the ground floor, including in the preserved facade of the historic building.
A building on the site which once housed Mario The Baker has already been demolished.
