Is 200 ft really that big of a difference for the FAA?

New Long Island City Skyscraper Will Be Tallest In Queens: Plans
A nearly 800-foot residential skyscraper will soon rise near Queens Plaza, city records show — eclipsing a nearby tower as Queens's tallest.

Quote:
For the third time in a handful of years, a new Long Island City skyscraper will gain the status of tallest building in Queens: in this case, a 794-foot tower set to rise near Queens Plaza, according to city records.

The new skyscraper will be mostly residential, containing 818 apartments at an average size of about 776 square feet. A portion will be set aside as affordable, through the city's mandatory inclusionary housing program.

It can be especially in the case of an emergency.

Interesting. Well we'll just have to wait and see. Maybe Queens will have a huge 800 ft plateau. That could be kind of cool in its own right.

It will be a "blah" design, but eventually Queens will break through like Brooklyn with something worthy of being the tallest.

2020 was, of course, a historic downturn for New York City, but as that year came to an end, activity and transaction volume began to increase once again. This uptick in activity
has continued through 2021 into 2022. The highlight of this recovery lies not in Manhattan but in the outer boroughs, specifically Brooklyn and Queens....

First full-color render I've seen of this one was just put on the fencing where they are tearing down the existing buildings.

As it typical for Long Island City, it's nothing special. I appreciate that it's not another blue glass box considering it's neighbors are all clad in blue glass.

Nothing special, but it brings more density to the LIC skyline. I’m convinced Queens will get it’s 9 Dekalb someday, even if not up to that height.

I'm sure there are some better photos out there, but this looks like it started.

Big LIC Warehouse To Be Demolished By Neighborhood Developer: Plans
The developer responsible for building Queens's tallest tower is now set to demolish a sprawling warehouse building near Queens Plaza

By Nick Garber
Sep 15, 2022

Quote:
A large Long Island City warehouse building will soon be torn down by a prolific neighborhood developer, according to city records.

Developer Chris Jiashu Xu filed plans Wednesday to tear down the five-story building at 42-53 24th St. — a 76,000-square-foot structure near Queens Plaza that dates to the 1920s.

Xu’s company paid $40.1 million in January to acquire the warehouse and an adjacent parking lot, city records show.
Quote:
His ultimate plans for the site are unclear, but Xu is no stranger to the neighborhood’s real estate market — he is the developer behind Skyline Tower, a 778-foot skyscraper near Court Square that wrapped up construction last summer as Queens’s tallest building. (Though it may later be surpassed by an 800-foot tower a few blocks away on Orchard Street.)

Not that the warehouse was anything special, but it was some good classic NY warehouse/loft fabric. Just wish it wasn't getting replaced with a 2 story parking podium.

The eagle lofts next door did a great job tying its new building together with their original neighbor.

Glad this is moving forward. Like the height. Not so much the design. “Queen’s tallest” should be better.

Let's hope Queens first supertall (if they ever get one) is as good as Manhattan’s first or Brooklyn's first.
