Very sad to see this handsome building go.
From the looks of the photo of a pile of splintered timber on the ground I am going to guess the latter.

Send it over to France to rebuild Notre Dame!

They are salvaging beams of course, you think the demo contractor just hates money?

They should be stacking a lot more than that. They definitely aren't saving the factory maple hardwood or the 3" tounge and grove decking. You can't even buy that decking if you are trying to restore an old factory.

Well this is encouraging at least. Shows they are also stacking bricks. They have quite a few pallets.

Would love to see the new building use some of the bricks on the facade or something. Or lobby.

You can definitely buy heavy timber decking, but it's a special order from the sawmill and pretty costly.

Glad to see they're saving the beams, but I agree they should be doing more... I guess it comes down to what kind of salvage is cost-effective. Salvaging flooring and decking requires a lot of manual labor removing nails and so forth, and you have to pull up the boards by hand to avoid splits. With cost of labor at an all-time high, they probably figured it's not worth it to pay laborers for this.

What does it look like on a city to city or region to region (like MSA) basis? Some markets are always better than others with ROI in that space. I would find it hard to believe that every market is facing a big slowdown but...?

seems to be less about regions and more about property type

Looks like this labor strike may be impactful to all the projects we're seeing if it goes on for a long period of time. Without concrete the high rise building market will grind to a halt quickly.

They actually did save and repurpose at least some of them. Go to the Atlas Demolition LinkedIn page and they have a post about it.

New building permit was issued for 150 N Ashland Ave in the West Loop for the new high rise (154 ft tall, 12 stories) with 210 new units. This is right to the west of Union Park and next to a Green Line stop. Permit is for the caissons only. Expect this thing to start soon..

Uptown Update: With 46th Ward Zoning Committee Vote Tuesday, Buena Park Neighbors Comes Out In Support of Immaculata Proposal

Quote:
This project presents real benefits to the neighborhood, approving it ensures a landmark building remains a neighborhood asset, and the few notable deficits presented by the project would likely be inevitable with any future plausible alternatives. Given that, Buena Park Neighbors Association has chosen to support this proposed redevelopment of the Immaculata high school. We encourage the other members of the 46th Ward Zoning and Development Committee to vote in favor.
