This picture doesnt do justice to the scale of these things. They feel, at least from street level, about a floor taller than the Diller Building.

This 85-foot-tall ‘W' is giving Skanska's 2+U legs to stand on
By JOURNAL STAFF

A giant “W” has sprouted along First Avenue near Seneca Street in downtown Seattle.

The 85-foot-tall structure is made of large steel pipes that are the first of several columns that will support 2+U, an office complex being built by Skanska. 2+U will hover above a 24,000-square-foot outdoor urban village.

The remaining columns along the perimeter will be Y-shaped, and all will be clad in precast concrete.

Column installation should be done by the end of this month.

Much of the complex will be supported by two concrete elevator cores that will be exposed in the center of the urban village.

Giant steel pipes are going up along First Avenue for 2+U. The office complex will sit above an outdoor open space with retail and entertainment.

Indeed could take big chunk of new Seattle tower, sources say

By ABJ staff
Sep 5, 2018, 1:58pm CDT

Even as it gobbles up real estate across Austin, homegrown job-placement website Indeed Inc. appears to be taking a big bit out of the Emerald City.

Marc Stiles with Puget Sound Business Journal reports, according to three unnamed sources, that Austin-based Indeed is negotiating to lease about 200,000 square feet at 2+U, a 38-story skyscraper under construction in downtown Seattle.

Slightly OT, but in light of the recent actual closing of the Alaskan Way viaduct, I can't help but imagine how this will open up not only the city's connection to the waterfront, but the development potential along the new promenade. Chris, your first photo really demonstrates how underutilized so many of those blocks still are. Let's get some showstopping architecture for such prominent lots while we're at it.

Tons of potential for Seattle. I must say, the city is frikin booming beyond belief. I mean for an American city... it is just flat out growing vertically and with density. The developments are of high quality too. The city appears very pro-growth which I like and I like that a lot of them don't focus that much on parking. Solid unit counts for many of these resi towers and solid office space sq-footage for the office towers.

San Francisco can learn a thing or to from Seattle. One West Coast city that is doing things right!

Compared to 10 years ago, the scale of the boom is profound.
