Jesus. The heavenly prewar magic of the "classic" New York skyline is definitely back. No more table tops.

And more still coming...

I would not say sped up, it's just remained normal/steady instead of being delayed or slowed down.

Love that last shot. Looks like the MetLife building is having a bad hair day.

Hogwash. They were walking like they were strolling in the park and they were starting from 49th St at the far northern edge of the station and exiting at 42nd St after making a point to head right through the heaviest crowds. Some claimed 18 minutes to get from the platform, up the escalators, south down the new concourse and up and out through the 42 St door of GCT. This apparently is competitive with a reverse subway ride from Penn or so they claim. But this completely ignores exiting perpendicular to the new station through one of the new entrance lobbies in the office buildings to get to their destinations. In reality you can make that trip in about 5-6 minutes depending on people traffic.
Some people will say anything. It’s always a trek to Penn Station. The river of people flowing is a real thing, but for a lot of people, it won’t be as neccassary or long. It’s a shame that it isn’t, but Penn Station isn’t in the heart of the commercial core. And as it currently stands, Grand Central is a better neighborhood. So for that family just coming in to see a Brioadway show, which would they prefer? For people who come in to work in the various connected skyscrapers like 270, who wouldn’t want to hop right from the station to the office?

I counted 30 Floors completed. At this rate, the building should top out this year.

Yeah, it's a shame how the 60s and 70s alone served to render midtown Manhattan a 'table-top town'. Pretty much the old twin towers of the WTC, Empire State, and maybe the Chrysler gave the skyline its character through this period. The 80s had more distinct designs, though some laughable like the Sony 'chippendale', and nothing really penetrating the flat dirge. The 60-story Chase Manhattan cereal box almost singlehandedly flattened the lower Manhattan skyline after 1960, too.

Not to make an off topic post but the news makes it seem like crime is rampant in this area. I guess NYGuy would know better than anyone how true this is.

I don't live in NYC with that said, I know the media likes to blow things up for ratings. I don't think NYC is as bad as people (most who have probably never been there) say it is. I do think crime is on the rise, you (not you personally) cannot deny that, but it's not 70's - 80's level. Last time I was there was early '21 when they were just waking up from covid. There were still some restrictions, but not too bad. I know things were different during that time, but I had no issues. The biggest problem I had there was the smell of weed almost everywhere I went. That gets tiresome. Add that to the massive influx of migrants (I'm not here to debate this), people have a bad view of the city.

If you’ve seen someone say that, they’re obviously producing fiction.

Yes the area of the city has a real problem with roving gangs of Starbucks baristas.

270 Park is looking good so far. I can't wait for it to top out. As a native NYer, the crime is not as bad as the media propagates, but there is a problem within the system. It's called politics. When you pander to radical ideologies, the criminals that committed misdemeanors and nonviolent crimes (supposedly) end up getting let back out on the street due to the no bail reform policy where those accused of these crimes/repeated offenders are released hours after they've been arrested for a crime. We have a corrupt DA in Manhattan that doesn't help the situation either. The Mayor and Governor are total clowns too because they pander to their appropriate counterparts and donor class that got them elected in the first place instead of putting their constituents first. Let's not forget how they boarded up stores in 2020 in fear of more BLM riots. The NYPD clearly had their hands tied and were prevented from actually doing their job. Places like Detroit and Memphis have it the worst I believe.

I'm curious to know which news outlet is saying Park Avenue is suffering from rampant crime?

Not anymore. At one point we were hitting that sub 3 people per 100k murder rate, which was very good (Canada rates), but now we are up again to like 5 per 100k, so some cities like San Jose and others are lower than us again. We are comparable to San Francisco now...
