I was going to type this out and then didn't -- I'm glad someone else did. It's just like at their Exhibit tower. It really, really bugs me in borderline irrational ways.

Artopolis? It's still there.

There's also a good little greek bakery on Lawrence in Lincoln Square called Hellas Pastry or something like that.

Okay, THIS comment confirms that I should just post whatever I'm thinking, because this also happened to me when I saw the images above. Sheesh.

Four more high-rise projects ready to break ground in Chicago’s West Loop

Construction season has arrived

By Jay Koziarz Apr 23, 2018, 12:20pm CDT

With Spring in the air, the last two weeks saw construction in Chicago’s West Loop shift into high gear thanks to four major projects landing building permits in rapid succession.
Featuring office, hotel, residential, and retail components, the quartet illustrate the diversity of new developments flooding the area west of the Kennedy Expressway.
Here’s a look at what’s breaking ground.

...

Gr333n
First up is Gr333n, the 19-story office tower replacing a parking lot across from Coyne College at 333 N. Green Street....
When complete in early 2020, Gr333n will house the new Chicago offices of London-based advertising firm WPP as well as new retail space. The developer plans two more office towers nearby.

Union West
Meanwhile on the same day, the city issued the first permit for a 15-story twin apartment tower complex at 939 W. Washington Boulevard. Known as Union West, this development from ZOM Living and bKL Architecture includes 358 rental units, 255 parking stalls, and roughly 12,000 square feet of retail space...

Extended-stay Hyatt
A 16-story hotel development at 113 N. May Street received the all-clear to begin work just a few days later. Also developed by Sterling Bay, this 191-room extended-stay project is expected to serve attendees of the Hamburger University training program at McDonald’s soon-to-open world HQ ...

Milieu
The fourth major West Loop building cleared to move forward in the last few days was Milieu—a 19-story apartment project slated for 205 S. Peoria Street. Although the 275-unit development...

He might be referring to the Pan Hellenic Bakery, which was located next to the Parthenon and was demolished for The Van Buren. Artopolis is a great bakery, but personally I thought Pan Hellenic were a step above.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that place. It's long gone.

Pan Hellenic was the one. 8( That place was really good. I love all the development but losing the little mom and pop places sucks. Really, not much left of "greek" town anymore and little Italy. Just a few restaurants and an Italian ice stand. I know the populations moved out long ago but it was a fun experience growing up and walking around there with my parents and grandparents.

My thoughts exactly. i fondly remember spending a lot of time in both Greek Town and Little Italy going to UIC. It's sad to see the character of both neighborhoods change. These neighborhoods are one of the things that make the city so unique in comparison to many other American cities.

I hope the developers of The Van Buren will actively seek tenants that will be offering Greek style food or services in order to help bolster the neighborhood's identity.

I walk by that hulk every day. The Subway shop finally closed in that building.

Last I heard, the creditors were going to get it auctioned off.
Update: Someone said that the third floor fitness center will be closing in the next few months. If this is true, Garvey Ct. will be completely vacant.
