I love all this great urban infill coming to downtown. I hope that, considering Minneapolis has one of the nation's better skylines already, that some sort of serious proposal to match, if not top, the city's tallest buildings comes down the pipeline soon. I know there have been some proposals of the abstract vision variety, but Minneapolis deserves to have its profile raised yet further on the national stage, IMO.

The FSP Mixed-Use proposal sounds promising and would compliment the skyline very well. This would be the first 700' footer built in Minneapolis in decades! I'm all for great urban infill, but a couple towers in the central core would put Minneapolis back on the map.

Another step closer for the Nicollet Hotel Block. Hopefully it will be taller than the original 36 story mixed use proposal.

Updated Gateway/Nicollet Hotel Site renderings. A lot of battles between the city of Minneapolis and the developer. City wants something "Iconic" on this site, and the developers aren't delivering.

"The North Loop neighborhood will get a new hotel next year dubbed The Hewing Hotel.

The project has been in the works since last year. Plans that passed through the Heritage Preservation Commission in January called for 126 rooms and a roughly 6,000-square-foot restaurant and bar. The hotel would also have a one-story rooftop addition for hotel amenities, a 3,150-square-foot rooftop deck and an outdoor pool. The project includes significant rehabiliation of the historic 1897 Jackson Building.

The Hewing Hotel is set to open next year, according to Aparium Hotel Group's website. "The Hewing Hotel adds another chapter to Minneapolis’ rich culture and a new benchmark for the Twin Cities’ hotel offerings," it reads.

Tim Dixon of Fe Equus Development, who owns the Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee where the company is based, is planning the boutique hotel concept. He told The Journal last year that the restaurant on the hotel's ground floor will be run by Chicago-based chef Suzy Crofton".
