What's crazy is I hadn't even considered this with respect to the Austonian or the Independent. We've seen such insane height jumps in recent years.

Taller than Indy and Austonian, but markedly less interesting architecturally. Not that it's a bad tower, it's handsome and I like the dark accents, but it's basically in the same mold as 44E and the Modern. So our filler-type towers have now begun to surpass the height of our signature towers from 4 years ago.

I think this one will be far more interesting looking once built. It may be the skinniest skyscraper (in both length and width) in Austin over 400' tall.

Here's a screen grab from the DC meeting showing the new height. The top floors with the best views have much higher ceilings.

Honestly I've been wondering if it will have a feel similar to Hyatt Centric -- since the lot is deep but skinny, it might produce that sort of a slablike look.

Possibly, but I don't think it will be quite as striking, due to 700 River being another slab literally right next to it.

Is the lot really that deep? This project doesn't go all the way through to Rainey, correct? If so, I guess it would have a Rainey address instead of East Ave.

Anyway, I think this is a half block deep (for the Rainey area and not CBD). So, it should still be not too wide.

Both are single lot projects, and they are both half a block in depth. The Centric block also has an alley, just like this one in Rainey does. I mean, it won't be apples to apples, but it'll be similar.

For clarification, the lot stops at the alley. So it's 1/2 the width of 700 River.

They added the pdf to the design commission's website. The elevations show it as 623 feet still, and we got another rendering showing it here.

Page 10 says 625.5’ and on the elevations there is some kind of slanted thing just barely above the top line.

That backup file doesn't have the latest info - the elevations show the previous 53-story version. The new elevations have not been made public. This is from the meeting. Four floors were added which increased the height to 684'.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that. I was mostly interested in the north/south rendering that showed the setback, which I hadn't seen before.

That's a lot of concrete on the southern facade. I know that the River Street tower will block much of it, but there will still be some poking out above. I wish they'd clad it with the black paneling used on the other facades.

The western face surprises me most -- half of the top portion is covered in metal panelling. You'd think the western side would have the best views of the river and downtown. This tower is clearly oriented towards the east and north, which makes sense give its close neighbors, but is definitely different from most of the other buildings here, which put a premium on western and southern views.

They're probably focusing on eastern views over western because the lot west of the tower could be developed one day, while the lot east of the tower is a freeway soon to be trenched.

One entire façade of the tower was going to be sacrificed anyway. It's so thin that the stairwell and elevator shafts will be designed to run up and down one side of the tower versus in its core.
