Sounds like a semi-truck leaving the site tipped over in from the lobby on Upper Wacker.

I hope they are covering up those vents like in this ad on FB! Fingers crossed.
That's not a rendering, that's a photo... if they're photoshopping out elements of their brand new building, how embarrassing.

If someone is in the area could they please just snap a pic? Per the previous post from last week it looks as though they are replacing those mechanical louvers with glass. Thanks in advance!

No they are not - the lower vents are behind the tree branch - pretty obvious if you look for them.

The second tallest louvers are photoshopped out, they take up half the floor (and look horrid).

In iLeunamme's Instagram post on the previous page you can see there is clearly something going on there. You can see a support devise hanging off the roof of that section. No?

edit: That actually might be a pergola installed on the roof there (for all the world to see even at ground level - another stellar design choice for an iconic building, smh)

In reality, pictures really don’t do it justice though. Yes the south side looks horrendous in SOME photos. However, when you see the building in person it’s like looking at a completely different skyscraper. Even the proportions look weird in photos. You really have to appreciate it in person to get the whole experience.

^ unfortunately. I'm not seeing that...

This is the best cam I can find and it's not great. That said, I'm not seeing any glass. I'll check back in as the sun hits a bit higher.

I hope we can get new renderings of the hotel soon.

Normally, I'd post something about asking spyguy if he's able to dig anything up, but I'm concerned since he hasn't posted in a while, and hope he's ok :/

I know this isn't too relevant to the thread but I find it interesting how there are serious issues with 432 Park Ave in New York despite the blow-through floors. It will be interesting to see if the engineers did a good enough job to limit the sway of the tower and prevent whiny billionaires. Although I have to say, the complaints of the billionaires in regards to 432 do seem valid.

NYT article on 432 issues:

Great picture! At the end of the day this is a tremendous tower with multiple great viewing angles (my favorite is from the river architecture tour). Sure the south elevation has a few blemishes but not many outside of this forum will take note in 10 years.

I also enjoy the blow through. Kinda cool it's the first of its kind for Chicago.

Everyone's opinions are valid, but I think this is the most fair take. Sure there are some issues with it, and it isn't perfect, but that doesn't detract from its novelty, its impact on the skyline, or the gorgeous angles of the building.

I disagree. I think the article is very pertinent because it shows how hubristic ostentatiousness has overtaken good design

and has abandoned integrity of both society and the physical structures which are being used to reinforce vanity more than

contributing to the quality of the social fabric. These enormous vanity projects are the height of societal decay as much as

anything else. Their expensiveness goes way beyond their monetary costs and they will only become more costly as time passes.
I feel like you said a lot of big words and wrote a lot but didn't really actually say anything at all

Is there a lighting scheme on this tower in a way that the whole tower could see some sort of lighting for say special events?

Somewhat in a manner like in the towers along East Randolph Street? That light up for holidays or even some local baseball games and so on.

Those are all office buildings. No one wants a bright light shining into their bedroom.
