Welcome to the most boring week of the winter.

I seriously dislike the all-star break.

Well good luck trying to get any owner to sell their team.

Pettersson with the hardest shot by a forward ever.

Edit: I think Stamkos had a harder shot one year making Petterson second hardest forward ever.

An antiquated event from the days when TV was limited and locals couldn't see every other player in the league. A glorified meet-and-greet for stars we already have ample access to anyway.

Would much rather international breaks instead of ASG, among other things, but alas.

Looks like there is serious discussion about extending 3-on-3 OT past 5 min to try to lessen the amount of games going to a shootout. I think I read there have been 51 shootouts so far this year, about 7% of games.

Frankly, I dislike the shootout but teams have started to play more keep away during OT which lessens the excitement. I think you should award winning team in OT 2 pts and 0 to the loser. The loser point sucks.

Yeah, I don't want to be a debbie downer here but I honestly don't know who the ASG is really intended for. None of the hardcore adult hockey fans I know (the kinds who listen to sports talk radio and bet on games) watch it. And even though it has a reputation of being "for the kids" I'm not sure they're all that into it either judging by my son and his buddies. I'm sure the players at the ASG would rather just have a quiet beach weekend.

I caught a few snippets of the skills competition and the fans in the crowd shots seemed kind of bored which is understandable given that it's a TV even with long breaks of dead time in the arena... and tickets for this event are not cheap as they are for an individual team's skills event, they are premium priced.

I still can't believe the Jets let Trouba go.

He's a one-man wrecking ball.

^ he didn't want to be in Winnipeg and demanded a trade to NYR. We kept him as long as possible.

He's good, but not at the contract the Rangers are paying him.

Curious to see how the Oil kick off the last 1/3 of the season off tonight.

I am hoping that we go 20-12.

He's making $8M, what do you think he should be paid? Zero chance you are getting him for less than that.

He's the best open ice hitter in the league. It's not even close.

^ I am happy it's the Rangers that need to end up figuring out if paying an open ice hitter 8 million for 7 years is worth it. They can afford the buy out.

$8M is a lot to pay for 2RD. I'd take Fox any day of the week over Trouba.

I am, because 8M is too much to pay for a 2nd pairing guy. Which is what Trouba is behind Fox.

Hitting in the NHL is over-rated. It often puts players out of position to make the proper play without the puck. Just because Trouba is a good hitter it doesn't mean he is worth $8 million. He is not a number one defenseman...more like a good number 2 or excellent #3. At the time he was signed to that contract, it was thought his actual worth was around $7 million and based on comments I have seen from Rangers fans elsewhere he wouldn't even be worth that. Trouba's salary is still top-10 in salary for defenseman I think, nearly 4 years after signing that contract. He is nowhere close to a top-10 defenseman, nor is even a top-20 defenseman. Maybe top-30...maybe.

The jets had to trade Trouba and New York was the only option as he made his intentions known that he only wanted to sign with them due to his wife going to medical school in New York.
