A "Winnipeg Crime & Safety" thread would probably clean up the discussion of this and a few other of the major threads we've got going on. I always check in looking for photo updates but frankly couldn't care less about the discussion about police funding.

MANITOBA GOVERNMENT OPENS 60-DAY CONSULTATION PERIOD ON CAPITAL PLANNING REGION REGULATION

https://news.gov.mb.ca/news/index.ht...ted=2022-07-18

The Manitoba government has launched a 60-day consultation period on a draft regulation that would establish a capital planning region to enhance economic and social development by improving and co-ordinating sustainable land-use and development in the region, Municipal Relations Minister Eileen Clarke announced today.

“Incorporating stakeholder perspectives on new or amended regulations is a critical component of our government’s framework of openness and transparency,” said Clarke. “The creation of a capital planning region is critical to the long-term growth and economic success of member municipalities and the province as a whole. This regulation would establish the framework and governance of the region, which includes representation from 18 municipalities to ensure co-ordinated land-use planning.”

The Tuxedo Shopping Center condo project is deep into excavation. There...that's more than a lemonade stand!

Weird Tower? WTF?
Do The Munsters live there??????????
Adams family?????
One of the more interesting designs in a tower of its era in Winnipeg Early 70's.
It is a very recognisable edifice & glad we have it.

Fun fact. The mushroom building is shaped like that because it has laboratories on the top floors which needed more floor area than the office floors.

That is fun! Though would have liked to think that it was esthetic design consideration. I thought that there is also a difference in the windows on the lab levels. True? Or urban myth?

I nearly took a student job in the beer research lab there once. A different lab ended up making me an offer slightly faster, which turned out to be a major and positive in fork in the road of my life. Didn't realize it at the time, though - I just wanted an easy co-op job where maybe I could sample the product.

Not sure where to ask this question, but in an established residential neighbourhood like River Heights, is there anything beyond the setback minimum to decide where the front of a new house can be? Like on a 50x120 R1 lot, you'd need a 20 foot front yard minimum - could you build 30' (or more) back (as long as you leave 25' min for the rear yard)?

Sunday night and it's been closed all week while they make repairs to the electrical system. Targetting to reopen tomorrow mid-day.

when i added a front porch, it couldn't protude any further than my neighbours without getting a varriance. I wanted a 10'x30', but ended up with a 8'x30' because of this. but we love it, that was 12 or so years ago

Speaking of Marcello's, it's been rumored that the Hydro HQ location is going to be re-opening in the near future now that all Hydro staff have returned to the office.
