I think you have those mixed up. Either way, both figures are out of the window. It could always be <1200' and still comply with the Libeskind master plan.

^ Looks like he still needs an anchor tenant to get that construction loan.

Obviously incredible news if this time it actually comes to fruition. But I will believe this one when I see it. Think we all need to take this with the biggest grain of salt possible, given it's history

It is a good sign that the other WTC buildings are mostly leased up. Businesses tend to favor new construction with the best amenities.

I thing the best design would be a tall boxy building with no setbacks in the height range of 1,250 to 1,350 feet. It needs to look strong.

I agree, and we know that there are a lot of companies looking for space.

If their goal is construction in 6-12 months then we could be seeing renderings of the new design very soon!

Gonna vote for 1,362 feet tall just like the old 2WTC

Perhaps a little taller?

To the extent that everyone accepts 1 WTC's 1,776' fiction, I don't see why the top of this tower can't be 1,500' for example.
Good good and hopefully an outside observation deck or something like that. Fingers crossed.

Great news.

It better be at least the height of the BIG design, as Lower Manhattan desperately needs something tall and dominant. One WTC looks so lonely, and needs a (fraternal) twin.

The original design was at one time 1,340 ft to the top of the diamond. Silverstein announced that Foster would be returning to update the design a couple of years ago. No reason we shouldn’t have seen a rendering by now.

That being said, the largest obstacle to a new design, other than completely built foundations, is the height limit. I could see a modern, reworked design with multiple terraces that wouldn’t require setbacks. But they wouldn’t want anything that would push this above the roof of the Freedom Tower.

I still wonder if the commitment needed is 500-750k of sq/ft.

The lower the amount needed for commitment to greenlight, the better chances.

They haven't updated the WTC site with the latest architect switch.

Nor on Silverstein Properties.

I wonder if the switch back to Foster is possibly foreshadowing that the client or tenant in mind went with it and now they are just tailoring the design to their needs, to accommodate. I mean 6-12 months sounds about right for a design to become started from the ground up and enough time to go through the legal mumbo-jumbo of signing a new tenant and starting construction.

If the degree of confidence is that high with a 6-12 month time table.

Utilizing the existing footprint but taking elements of the original design and altering them to accommodate both tech needs and financial needs.

I've imagined that Apple would be the major tenant for this building, and their logo would be on the diamonds, illuminated at night.

If they are looking at a finance and tech client, I could envision larger floor plates/higher ceilings at the base or lower portion of the tower with the mid to upper floors catering to tech and other sectors that don't really require the large floor plates (non trading sectors). Possibly as an added competitive edge (amenities/functionality) over Midtown East with securing financial tenants now and in the far future. In the end, this tower will be competing with Midtown East/West. Long term competitiveness must be factored in, especially if its to command a premium in $/sqft due to the location.

The original Foster was heavily catered for the financial types but I wonder if the possible addition of tech (if?) is a factor if a design change IS present.
