Very cool stuff. Gerrard St village is one of those long-erased areas that's always fascinated me. Looked pretty hip back in the day.

That area may be long gone, but its scale is very classic Toronto, a kind of rambling, low-rise thing radiating down long, straight corridors.

It is too bad that Yonge has lost this now.

This Gerrard Village pic from 1963 is interesting to me, since it feels like the kind of hipster neighbourhood that small, provincial places first carve out, a few storefronts at a time. For example, this strip in Kitchener, or this strip in Sudbury.

The Yorkville pictures from the same thread are just 5 or 6 years later and, while it's definitely no Carnaby street, the vibe feels a lot more "big city".

It shows just how much things changed during the 1960s.

^^good eye and yes, early 60s I believe.

Didn't realize how much single family housing there was in the Westend.

^Yes - funny to see all those SFHs in what is now downtown.
Also, there doesn’t appear to be any underpasses under the CPR tracks in those days. The Beltline was totally cut off.

That guy provided photos for an utterly fascinating book on the Walled City of Kowloon.
