I was in the Goodwill store at Mission & South Van Ness last week & was surprised to see the store half empty! I guessed that the store was to close soon, and that is good news as the development is moving along!

^^Quoting from minesweeper's earlier post: "San Francisco's flagship Goodwill Store at 1580 Mission St. (and Van Ness) will officially close its doors on August 12th."

Since this involves city goverment offices, it is essentially immune from the business/development cycle and is moving along. I have read articles suggesting certain city departments are fighting over who will move into the new quarters. It seems like it is solidly on track.

It's worth mentioning that the excavation/shoring/demolition permits have been issued, so hopefully we'll see some action soon:

The contractor listed on the permits is Pankow Builders.

There was work being done when I drove by late this morning, though all I could see was the arm of a backhoe digging and dumping its loads behind the fence.

It was a very cheap building that was easy to demolish.

Socketsite called it "iconic". ROTFL! "Iconic" is another word, along with "hero" and "warrior" that we have cheapened to the point of making it meaningless.

I made a similar comment on Socketsite’s Facebook page...ridiculous! People were bemoaning the building’s loss for another tower.

Financing has been secured for the project:

Quote:
Related California and Deutsche Bank Announce $458.5MM Construction Financing for 1500 Mission Street in San Francisco

San Francisco, CA – December 19, 2017 – Related California and Deutsche Bank today announced they’ve closed on California’s largest-ever construction financing with tax-exempt bonds, totaling $316.8 million, to finance construction costs for its new development at 1500 Mission Street. The tax-exempt bonds will be purchased by Deutsche Bank (NYSE: DB), as will the balance of the financing, $141.7 million of variable rate demand notes. Closing construction financing is critical to ensuring progress continues and the timeline stays on track.

[...]

Demolition began at the site in November, 2017 and the City and County of San Francisco and Related California are expected to celebrate a formal groundbreaking at 1500 Mission Street in early 2018. Construction is expected to last 28 months, with the grand opening expected in May, 2020.

Not at this time. It's now owned by the City and is completely occupied by them except for the bank branch.
