No it's not, London is the most visited city in europe

Paris, for its beauty. No city of that size is as dynamic yet ripe with history as Paris (if my Rome was as tidy and innovative as Paris, it could be a rival, but it would still be much smaller).

Then, a noteworthy second: Madrid for its nightlife. I still have to see a city matching Madrid's nocturnal activity.

Berlin has more room/space to breathe than Paris though. Paris can be suffocating.

I've come to know and love Paris very much over the years. I'm lucky to have fantastic friends who live in the city (so I visit them often), and therefore I've got to appreciate it like the locals would. It's not just about the amount of things that I can visit and do while I'm there, although it does keep me busy with still plenty to discover even after nearly a decade of 3-4 trips there per year. It's also about discovering the amazing gastronomy trail, understanding the undertone in non-verbal communications, taking in the grandeur of marvellous architecture etc.

If I could, I'd probably move there in a heartbeat

Big city, probably Istanbul these days.

I tend to prefer the medium sized ones I have lived in like Maastricht, Aachen or Catania best just because I know them so well.

Many european capitals and cities are great to know, but everyday living is a different matter. I´d chose Rome or Athens to visit, and London or Frankfurt to live

Thank you! I would suggest you to take a little time for your tour de France when you can afford it.
Any French region delivers in their own particular way, and the 2nd-rate ones may actually be more friendly and welcoming than Paris to foreigners.
Europeans frequently travelling the country like the British and the Dutch probably could second statements of that kind.

I also read comments from North Americans here and there going like - Paris is obnoxious and nasty. Don't waste time over there. But pay attention to the rest of their country, it's a delight.
This type of comments is quite a bit insulting to folks from the Paris region, but most likely legitimate, somehow.

Say life in provinces is easier in a number of aspects. There's great food out there. I think in average, they eat better things than busy Parisians.

Nevertheless, infrastructures feel backwards to me whenever I leave Greater Paris. Your phone might even go disconnected in a few small towns of rural areas, which is unbearable. The welfare state absolutely needs to solve that problem. You can't do anything right when you're constantly offline these days.

I lived in Marseille for spells over three years. Wonderful place; extremely underrated. Venezia is incomparable (so too is Amalfi coast/Sorrento, Florence).

I am going to Porto this summer, so I am pumped.

Paris is extraordinary, but also quite unpleasant. I quite like Vienna, given it has pretty much all the upsides of Paris with comparatively fewer downsides. And the coffee/pastries are the best in the world.

The smaller European cities have a lot going for them. Wonderful charm/food, and less expensive/congested.
