Indeed Tower looks amazing from here. Also, the capitol corridor buildings will have a huge presence.

That's good to know. I wish they showed us renderings of that.

But no, I was talking about this:

It's just kind of unsightly/unfortunate. It especially stands out now that the rest of the stadium is so fancy.

If you have a chance sometime, check out the view from East MLK at I-35. The view as you wait at the light on the I-35 overpass is really impressive with those new state office buildings, and yeah, Indeed Tower looks great from MLK farther east.

I'll admit, the Longhorn cut-out looks better than I thought it would.

Certainly less Fallopian than the original renderings.

I agree with that. It’d be really nice if they put a brick/stucco facade over it to tie it into the south endzone and the rest of the stadium exterior. Also would be cool to add “DKR - TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM” lettering right there too so you can see it driving/walking down the street

It's definitely not hard to add brick to that façade. Just not sure if they want to expend the funds to do so.

It does need something - especially the exposed CMU blocks on the upper deck.

Question, Is there 2 towers on the northwest corner of the stadium? I know there's 2 on the other 2 corners. Thanks

Oh snap, you bring up a good point. We're actually looking at the Southwest corner of the stadium in my above pic but the reason the Southeast corner doesn't have that same blank wall is because it has 2 towers, like you said.

How weird. This makes my OCD flair up. I hope they have plans to fix it to make it consistent.

Although, maybe the upper deck on the west side makes it impossible.

I've always found it odd that it is so asymmetrical. Is there a reason they didn't build the upper deck on the other side?

I guess they didn't have a need for that much capacity.

It used to drive me nuts, when I was a kid and they built the upper deck, on the west side. The justification, which makes sense, is that it was too hot to have a big upper deck on the east side - the patrons would be directly exposed to late afternoon sunlight and heat. Even so, symmetry would've been nice...

The West-side upper deck is massive and was built in 71. The track wasn't removed until 99. East side upper-deck went in in 1998. North end-zone was completely demolished and its upper deck in 2008.

This is obviously happening now.

So, the biggest issue is its just a patchwork of expansions throughout the years.

If you want to see a real cluster of a hodgepodge go look at Kyle field.

So, the answer (like most with DKR) is foot print. The stadium is not parallel to the street grid so there is very little room on the SE corner before you get to Robert Dedmon to extend a massive support structure for a similar upper deck as the west side.

The connecting north and east upper deck was constructed like that due to the State's CVC from the LBJ Library. In addition to the CVC, in order to mimic the west side upper deck on the east side, they would have had to relocate Robert Dedman Drive (as previously mentioned). Also, this closing and/or realignment would have affected Myers Stadium.

Back in the mid-1990's, the masterplan for the stadium was to completely wrap the south end zone with stands that identically mimicked the north end zone (as seen today). I was a student intern in the University's fundraising department at that time. The plan, back then, was to have a total seating capacity of about 115,500. The north end zone expansion was completed in 2008 (as previously mentioned) and the original masterplan for the south end zone began to evolve.

Thanks for the insider info! Was your time there where the model under the glass case was done? I've seen photos of that over the years.
