Looks like 151 N website already reflects the new rendering with the red CNA signs:

I know there's a trend of these companies downsizing without reducing headcount, but 750K sf in Big Red to 275K sf is still kinda surprising.

Edit: A few more

^At one point, CNA had three downtown buildings full of people: the Straus Building on Michigan and the two connected ones on Wabash. Of course, that was in the typing pool-carbon paper era.

I wouldn't even mind them insetting a few rows of windows for pocket balconies as long as they do it subtly.
Only the Continental Center (shorter gray building) built in 1961 is landmarked. Even though CNA will soon be old enough to technically be landmarked...I don't know if it is architecturally special enough to deserve that recognition yet.

Shouldn't worry about anything as drastic as 55 E Monroe, as that was mostly about making wider windows. CNA's windows are plenty wide.

CNA was who I was referring to. Glad to see they chose to move to a new development rather than stay. Also, good call SaminTheLoop

About time on this one! So it sounds as if they have somewhere in the 375-400 k sq ft range of pre-leasing done (or just about - but sounds to me like execution of the actual CNA lease may come quite quickly). Great news, it feels as if it's been a long wait to get this one off the ground (but in reality, probably feels longer than it's actually been).

Further, with this one not far from 50% pre-leased, and 150 N Riverside and River Point each at or near 75% pre-leased, very good news for getting the fourth office tower off the ground (likely to be 130 N Franklin imo) - very possibly before the end of 2016......

Photo taken a few minutes ago. No real change, recently - through the barriers and the piles of bricks on the south side are new.

215 Lake looks to be making good progress.

Those bricks are to give the incoming caisson rigs a solid footing.

Yes. Brickbat

So this CNA Center will be about 32' shorter than the current CNA Center.

Why are permits issued like this I have always wondered hoping someone can enlighten? Why issue permits in sections like foundation to first floor when they can just issue for the whole build? Thanks

I believe it is to speed up the review process for large buildings. If you've ever seen a full set of plans that can be ridiculously detailed, especially for something like an office building. Takes a lot of time for all those MEP details to be reviewed, but not much time for the general foundations and structure. So I think they issue those permits first so they can finish reviewing the rest of the structure as they break ground on the foundation.

Ah ok well that makes sense thanks I was looking at it wrong if that's the case as of it was something that was delaying projects

Sir I will politely disagree with your assessment. This is a major upgrade of a dismal corner. Adding daytime employees to this corner will be a huge asset to the north west loop. And this is a good looking building to boot.
