Rick Bowness said he’s already spoken to Mark Scheifele and Adam Lowry.

Went on to speak about how great the conversation went with 55.

Said the Jets centre is “all in” for next season.

LeBrun is also reporting that the Winnipeg Jets have a third-year option on Rick Bowness’ new coaching contract worth $2.5 million per season. LeBrun writes, “Rick Bowness’s two-year deal also includes a club option for a third season. So it’s two years guaranteed plus the option. Salary for the third option year closer to $3M

***I didn't know coaches went that low for salary lol.**** Least we know he's only here for 2 years and maybe 3. Sounds to me like that Trotz option can still happen when he's ready. I also understand that Rick may not have wanted to coach longer then 2 to 3 years given his age. But I like to think positive so I'm going with the Trotz plan or if Queenville is allowed to coach again as he said he'd like to, and now it's up to ButtMan

From interviews today not that it means much but Bowness is a real class act and good guy.

So they'll be making a push with Bowness, then.

Trotz was making $4M/year in New York. I can't remember how the contract was set up but it's possible he can stay at home and do nothing and make more as he had a year remaining when he was canned.

For reference:

Cassidy (VGK) 5 years x $4.5M
Torterella (PHI) 4 years x $4M
DeBoer (DAL) 4 years x $4.25M
Maurice (FLA) 3 years x $3.9M
St. Louis (MTL) 3 years x $3M
Bowness (WPG) 2 years x. $2.5M
Montgomery (BOS) 3 years x $2M
Wodocroft (EDM) 3 years x $2M
Richardson (CHI) 4 years x $1.5M

Trotz I believe was at the start of his stint higher. I'm not positive. But Paul was making 3.75 a season. I know we offered $7 million to Trotz with a future management position. I know Detroit or was it Philly that also offered Trotz $ 7 million.

I do think we got Rick at a steal though. And if he can weed the locker room out and then retire then it was worth it. Then go after a top coach. But would it have been honestly a good investment to blow $7 million and a long term contract with Trotz when we have a locker room issue?

Trotz was on a 5 year x $4M salary. $4M each season.

Fun to consider that in 2000-2001 his salary was just $325K in Nashville.

Looks like coaches have done better than the players in terms of salary growth over the last 20 years... the most highly paid players today aren't earning a whole lot more than the most highly paid players of 20 years ago.

Eh. The minimum salary for a player in 2000 was $150,000. Today it's over $750,000. Pretty good, i'd say. The ceiling has been controlled because teams were going bankrupt prior to the introduction of the salary cap.

^ I suppose you could also say that coaches must have really lagged behind players in terms of salary growth.

Scheifele doesn't have much choice other than being "all in". Doing lights out play is how you get other teams to take notice and start calling your GM with trade offers.

I noticed that the former Moxie's patio in front of the arena is now coming down. I like it, it really opens up the sidewalk along Portage.

If the Jets shit the bed, and come in last place, this is the season to do it. Bedard is a superstar, and one of 3 players that is pretty much guaranteed to be a player an organization can build their team around (McDavid and Crosby being the other 2 this century).

^ Given all of the players leaving town with hardly anyone coming in to replace them, I kind of wonder if that's the track that the Jets are headed down. Could be a prospect-heavy team this season. But if the Jets are going to tank, then they should tank... the last thing I want to see is them suffering through a 28th place finish or whatever and not having a great shot at the top pick in the lottery.

This will likely be a very young jets team with Stastny gone and literally no new acquisitions or trades. The core is not weak enough though in my opinion to tank properly. To me this is a team in the 15th to 20th rank in the league just mediocre overall but not absolutely terrible.

After all the spring hype. Jets got nothing done. I am greatly disappointed, but not surprised. "iron's were in the fire". But nobody bit. Maybe they had something lined up. whos knows. Either way, me sad.

I'm pretty happy with our top 5 F Schiefele, Conner, Perfetti, Dubois, ehlers and top 3 D Pionk, Morrisey, Dillon.

build a young guys around them and we will be a contender for 2nd round polayoffs

Hoping Mr Bowness can get things together. Current 1C and 2C are skipping town in short order, among others.

I cant believe the 'most important off season in the team's history' ended up being nothing....they are heading back with the exact same team except for the backup goalie....NHL ready defencemen back to the AHL...two key forwards gone, to be replaced with what?...Morgan Barron?

They have two seasons before the team implodes....

Attendance will likely be pretty weak this season with how mediocre the team is and the current issues with downtown safety after summer of hell at the forks
