MiamiCentral is on track for a 2017 opening

Quote:
The ground that once was home to Miami’s train station is today evolving on a daily basis with tons of new steel and concrete.

MiamiCentral is on track for a 2017 opening, and with it, apartments, shops, offices and other companion commercial uses will debut downtown.

The new station is more of a transportation hub, with connections to several modes of public transit.

Its primary function is home to a new passenger rail service called Brightline.

The new rail station is being integrated with the Miami-Dade County Metrorail and Metromover systems, and is being considered a major transit hub for the city with connections to buses, trolleys, taxis and more.

Just west of the main construction, developer All Aboard Florida is also busy building a mixed-use project known as 3 MiamiCentral that will bring a grocer, along with office and retail uses to Overtown.

“MiamiCentral is rising,” said Scott Sanders, executive vice president of development and construction for Brightline and All Aboard Florida.

“More than 250 workers are on the 11-acre site each day and we are seeing the results of their efforts as our MiamiCentral buildings and train columns take shape,” he said.

According to Mr. Sanders, here’s what’s happening at MiamiCentral:

•Casting of train structure columns.

•Forming of train structure column capitals.

•Installation of steel for building walls.

•Back-filling and grading for foundations.

•Site work and excavation continues throughout.

Mr. Sanders said support work is also happening off-site as precast concrete panels that make up the giant V structures are being fabricated, along with other portions of the steel structural system.

MIAMICENTRAL UNVEILS CENTRAL FARE, CULINARY MARKET WITH SIGNATURE FOOD AND BEVERAGE EXPERIENCES

MIAMI, FL – May 9, 2016 – MiamiCentral, the new 11-acre mixed-use development in the heart of Downtown Miami and future home of the Brightline train service, today Central Fare Entryintroduced Central Fare, a dynamic, urban marketplace. Central Fare will offer authentically crafted and carefully curated culinary experiences – featuring chefs Bryan and Michael Voltaggio, Richard Hales of Blackbrick Chinese; and Andres Barrientos and James Bowers of Miami Smokers, among others.

“Mirroring the vibrancy and cultural diversity of Miami, Central Fare will reflect the eclectic energy of its residents and travelers, providing authentic, well-crafted experiences bringing together food, beverage, ideas and community,” said David McIntyre, senior vice president of operations for MiamiCentral and Brightline. “This will be the new gathering place, a unique culinary destination, showcasing the talents of both local and national artisans, tastemakers and chefs.”

Opening in summer 2017, Central Fare will encompass approximately 50,000 square feet on the first and second levels of MiamiCentral. Featuring six restaurants and more than 20 food and retail purveyors, Central Fare and the Voltaggio restaurant are being designed by award-winning global hospitality design and concept firm, AvroKO.

Monger by the Voltaggio Brothers
The signature dining experience at the heart of Central Fare will be Monger by the Voltaggio Brothers, Bryan and Michael Voltaggio’s first collaborative restaurant in Monger by The Voltaggio BrothersFlorida. Both known for their time on Bravo’s Emmy-winning season of “Top Chef,” the two have also been featured on various programming for the Cooking Channel, Food Network, and the Travel Channel, and their co-authored cookbook, “VOLT. ink,” was released in 2011 to great acclaim.

The 10,000-square-foot restaurant will feature separate kitchens and coordinating dining areas to represent three distinct culinary resources: fishmonger, butcher, and green grocer. Guests will be able to curate their own meals through an interactive menu inspired by a vital yet simple part of most people’s daily lives: the grocery list.

“MiamiCentral and Brightline are transformative projects and we knew right away that we wanted to be a part of it,” said Bryan Voltaggio. “We have family in Florida and visit often. Creating a signature dining experience in South Florida is an important next step for us, and Monger will be unlike anything we’ve done before, and a capstone for Central Fare’s already compelling offerings.”

All Aboard Florida's MiamiCentral Phase One Starting to Take Shape

Quote:
Progress has been moving along nicely at Phase One of All Aboard Florida's MiamiCentral Station. Designed in part by the Chicago-based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), the project will come in two phases, beginning with two residential towers and an office building, all of which will rest atop the station. Phase Two, to begin mid-2017, will include the addition of a hotel.

All Aboard Florida is making big plans for the second phase of MiamiCentral.

Quote:
Land previously reserved for single “supertower” has now been split into two separate tracts, according to documents filed with the county last month. The plans indicate that each tract will have a separate tower.

The two new developments will be located at the intersection of Northwest 1st Avenue and Northwest 2nd Street, adjacent to the current Miamicentral construction site. The new developments will include:

Tract F (1.376 acres) will include a tower with 750 hotel rooms and 50,000 square feet of retail space

Tract G (1.326 acres) will include a tower with 800,000 square feet of office space and an additional 50,000 square feet of retail

All Aboard Florida submitted a request to have the property replatted into the two separate tracts last month, and a county committee is recommending approval. As part of the replatting, Northwest First Avenue will be straightened, with part of what is currently a roadway being added to the project site.

The proposed hotel would be bigger than any existing hotel within the city of Miami, while the office tower would be one of the biggest ever built in the city.

Interest in the first phase of the project has been strong, with most of the office and retail space already leased.
