Looking forward to seeing this rise. The height in that location is going to look stunning. Heres to hoping that the growth north and south on Broad continues.

I agree. That whole intersection is not great. Two parking lots, the dead side of the theater, and a three story building next to a parking lot.

The project at Broad and Bainbridge really helps this area too.
It's a Sonder hotel: https://www.sonder.com/destinations/...35349?sleeps=1

Appeals filed against the Zoning Permits

Looks like someone has filed Appeals against L&I to block the two zoning permits for this building:

https://li.phila.gov/zba-appeals-cal...HA-2022-005002

https://li.phila.gov/zba-appeals-cal...HA-2022-005001

Not scheduled to be heard until March 2023 causing further delays.

Anyone know who is behind this? Symphony House residents? Someone else?

Well that’s bullshit. I wonder what the odds any of their approvals get reversed is? From what I understand it’s a by-right build. Hopefully this doesn’t mess with their financing.

I don’t know for sure, but it most likely is the denizens of Pepto Bismol Palace, judging from their rather shrill objections raised in the public comments period of the CDR meeting. Recall these are the same dedicated citizens who fought Jamaican Jerk Hut’s outdoor music performance space — several blocks away on South St — in court for years.

They contended too that the developer hadn’t contacted them, never mind that the project was publicized by and presented at a Zoom meeting of the Center City Residents’ Association, which is the RCO that covers that area.

Wow and I thought HOA's and Suburb nimbys were bad.

Imagine living in a downtown area in a Highrise, and complaining about another Highrise going up.

Irony at its finest.

Like the saying goes "All for me, none for thee"

Yeah f—k these people. Hopefully this gets resolved swiftly and the timeline stays on track. This will do so much to improve that area, particularly at night.

They’re probably going to try and tie this up in courts until the developer backs out. I expect multiple lawsuits and complaints

I wouldn’t jump to being so pessimistic. There’s only so much you can do to jam something like this up as a concerned citizen. I don’t practice real estate law but I’m assuming they’ll lose this appeal then take it to common pleas and lose on a MTD or SJ. Without knowing who the petitioner is it’s impossible to assess how big the wrench they’re trying to throw is. At this moment I’d be more concerned with financing falling through because of interest rates than these bafoons wrecking anything. It is still annoying though.

Those little jerks in the Society Hill Nimby club tried to kill the Dock Street project and lost spectacularly. I expect the same result here.

Correct, it is. This isn’t a hearing for a variance, but the attorney will *try* to show that the zoning application wasn’t properly issued and that some aspect(s) of it isn’t by-right.

Reminds me of the idiots in their post-war suburban developments who complain about new development. Hello!
