And just like that. Another supertall that will be 1,035 feet tall has finally been revealed for Austin, just a few blocks up. Check out Supertall proposals to see the renderings...

True dat, Austin didn't have any tall buildings until the mid '70's so it's the American equivalent of Dubai

I'm not really sure what is meant by tall, but when I was at UT in the early to mid 70s, there were a lot of state office buildings near the Capitol that formed sort of a skyline. There were also a few "sort of" tall buildings downtown and also Dobie Center (dorm) at UT that was quite tall relative to most buildings here. I don't have the data, but things really didn't change a lot until after about 2000. I remember thinking in the mid 90s how embarrassing it was to be a pretty big, fast growing city with such a puny skyline. Fortunately, that's all changed and I think it's the best downtown skyline in the state, and one of the best in the country as viewed from the south side of the river.

I consider the two office buildings that are ~330 feet tall built in the mid '70's to be tall but yeah, both "tall" and "skyscraper" are subjective terms. Wikipedia does a cool thing where they not only show the tallest buildings of each city but also a historical timeline of the tallest building and it shows that until 1974 the Texas State Legislature was the tallest building in the city and even then the two buildings that eclipsed the legislature were just barely taller. Austin didn't get a building over 30 stories until 1984 since then of course things have picked up exponentially. While the city's skyline has made massive gains in the last few years I still don't think it can compete with Dallas or Houston although it left San Antonio in the dust

I think he is talking more about how Downtown is massed and how impressive it looks especially south of the Colorado River the way the towers are lining up, taller ones rising above the the waterfront towers. Also consider the park system that blends into Downtown. Austin only has one expressway bordering it's eastern flank, but no others. That puts Austin in a very unique position with regards to the other Texas cities. Austin does not look like a "typical" Texas city.

Incredible video sewaneetigers! Your drone videos provide the best updates we have on this forum (or anywhere for that matter) on the Rainey Street construction progress.

Thank you. The music is very distracting, so no more videos with music.
