Long Island City, NY. 2022

Long Island City continues to have plenty of new construction. Here are a few photos I snapped a few months ago. All were taken from the car en route from Manhattan to the Long Island Expressway. They do not purport to represent what most of the area looks like. Just things that caught my fancy!

Interesting variety of uninspired towers and grim streetscapes, I can see why you stayed in the car! But thank you for the glimpse of transformation.

LIC deserves a true walking tour. The northern half (north of the bridge) is mostly warehouses but south of the bridge is a terrific walkable neighborhood with some cobblestone streets, a few brownstone blocks, and a lot of vitality.

Hideous place. Despite the name, few people associate it with Long Island. I'm guessing some people don't know that Long Island City and the rest of Queens Borough, and Brooklyn, are Long Island settlements. What seems to be important instead is the incorporation into New York City. So much that "long island" begins at the Nassau County line.

Long Island City has seemed like an interesting neighborhood ever since I found out about it. It makes sense that it is developing, as Queens' area closest to Midtown Manhattan. It makes me wonder if a section of the Bronx will ever develop like this.

The South Bronx closest to Manhattan is developing almost exactly like this.

It is absolutely not a hideous place at all. Pics from a bridge approach do not do it justice. The Hunters Point neighborhood of LIC has one of the best waterfronts in the entire city.

the redevelopment was very slow to get started, but is moving along at a steady clip nowadays. south bronx as well. the final foot dragging frontier is our north shore staten island, but even that is finally happening at its own slow pace.

Skyline of Long Island City is just fine, but it seems lack of sonething, of what...a soul ... a culture... maybe a high tower gothic church, or a capitol styled concret

Church towers are not NYC's style, but at least NYC is very epitomic of urban American culture.

This area looks like a great location for an old Pacino or De Niro movie.
