The site of the King Records studio, where many of James Brown's hits were recorded in the 1960s, was in a decidedly nondescript part of town.
That's why I chuckle a little when you hear musicians or artists say they need to be in a certain city for inspiration.
James Brown invented soul/funk and recorded the music that backed dozens of rap songs in the 80s and 90s in this building, in a decidedly average part of Cincinnati:
