I'm assuming the cluster in the near background is Flushing, but what are the two large presences waaay further out? "Next to" the top of Skyline Tower...that has to be in Long Island (Nassau/Suffolk) but what is it?

To the left is Flushing. To the right of Skyline Tower, those 3 towers, way in the distance are the North Shore Towers. Right in the middle of a country club.

That cluster is now larger than the downtowns of most small-to-mid-market cities in the US.

When I first moved to NYC, I lived in Astoria. From my bedroom window I could see the Citi building...nothing else came close to its size. I moved away long ago, but I can only imagine the view now...it must be dozens of towers...the Citi tower may not even be visible anymore.

That looks like a random cluster of modern highrises in Tokyo or some other place in Japan that just suddenly rises out the cluttered mass of urbanity below. Incredible.

Growing up in the Bronx back in the late 1970s, never in my wildest dream would I have expected Queens to have a legitimate skyline. Back then, compare to the Bronx, it always felt like the suburbs, lol. Simply amazing.

There was a time, during my time in NYC, that I worked as a tractor-trailer driver, doing a peddle-run (term for local pick-up and delivery) covering Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. Back in 1979, Long-Island City was one of the routes I had. Now, when I visit the city and see the vast changes, I am amazed. Long Island City does not at all resemble the place in which I worked then (I also attended Aviation High School, not too far away, graduated from there in 1972). Then, it was a manufacturing hub, the company names I can rattle off (Eagle Electric, Swingline, Breyers Ice Cream,Graybar Electric, on and on).

Things sure do change!! That assemblage of new towers are quite a sight.

Indeed!

Like take the shot of LIC and its surroundings and place it in most of America. Would stand out if by itself, but this is just a small portion of the galaxy known as NYC. A small solar system among the clusters that make the city.

Back in the day I always imagined the Queens Citicorp tower as a fine Nakatomi Plaza if Die Hard were about an LA cop visiting NYC. Tall and isolated back then just like Fox Plaza.

How would an LA cop differ from a NY cop?
