That’s never going to happen. Austin deserves the tallest.

^^^No city "deserves" anything.

Please, if you want to continue this high-school level skirmish, please PM each other. Let's get back on track.

I didn’t realize I was part of a skirmish, high school-level or other wise. I simply found the “Austin deserves...” comment to be odd.

I just meant because Austin has gone from sleepy college town to potentially having the tallest in Texas is a huge move forward. Maybe deserve wasn’t the right word, but it certainly has the potential to compete with larger cities with larger skylines. Also didn’t realize it was a “skirmish”.

I guess I should make it clear that my original post about not letting Austin have the tallest building was somewhat facetious. But not totally facetious. In all honestly, I’d prefer to see Houston defend its title. At the same time, I lived in Austin for a short time in the late seventies and it’s fascinating to see the changes. As long as it doesn’t get too uppity.

No worries. My apologies. There is a lot of city-v-city malcontent going on and I misunderstood your intent having only typed words to go by. I now see that it was benign.

Again, my apologies.

With regard to Wells Fargo Tower - if said project were to ever get off the ground, don't you think it may be difficult to find windows to match the current curtain wall of the tower?

I'm thinking something other than windows, like a metal mesh, would be better. Something that wouldn't shatter in a hurricane. As for matching the existing windows, they haven't had any issues that I know of replacing windows in the past.

The fact that Austin is even part of a city vs. city dialogue with Houston about who might have the tallest building in Texas says a lot.

So the new Google tower going up or the indeed tower finishing is not a true office skyscraper??

Block 71, 542ft. You were saying Austin has no “commerce” towers and that we only have residential and mixed use. Yeah the new tallest will not be all office, but we for sure have plenty of new office towers and we are a tiny little brother to Houston. Austin is doing great for its size. So what exactly are we trying to compare here??

Not to mention that when Houston’s tallest “commerce towers” were built was nearly 40 years ago. Before mixed use was even a thing.

Pointing out that Houston's tallest buildings were built before mixed use was a thing actually just reinforces my point that Austin can't fill a supertall with offices only, by the way.

You guys need to chill out. Austin's growth and changes are phenomenal. I hated the place back in 70s. I think it's very impressive now.
Houston has a very impressive skyline. I just don’t see why being all commercial is an issue at all.
