Just like Bvic said ......

I wonder of there will be any change in the design, I'm hoping the glass changes.

from the article
Quote:
An update on the plans is expected later this week during the 25th annual U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade session, which will conclude late Thursday. Gang's renderings, when they are made public, will provide greater detail.

The 1,148-foot tower would be the city's third tallest after the Trump Tower (1,362 feet, including its spire) and Willis Tower (1,729 feet to its tip).

read the article. your hope is in vain.

from the article:

The project is expected to have an unusual profile — three interlocking, zigzagging high-rises, according to conceptual designs from the developer. At this point the entire cost of the project is not known.

It's odd looking but not the worst building that could be built. Good height too.

Today's Trib Article

I get the impression that the reporter did not actually obtain any new information for today's article (related to the tower itself) and was just re-using the stuff from the press release and related articles earlier this year......

.....although we may get some new info later this week after the project is discussed/presented in the trade talks.....

OT: I don't think that's a work around, they allow you five free articles before running into the paywall. I'd pay for it if it weren't $130 a year..... I'd rather subscribe to Crain's for $60

I thought we were known for forward functional architecture... Like the new Roosevelt tower where at least there the 'bump-outs' identify the student lounges... can't wait to see the floor plans of this thing... will Jeanne just increase and decrease the square footage of living rooms? will she continue to claim it's green due to half of the glass facing down (ha, and the other half facing up totally eclipsing any savings)

This tower will look great when blended with the rest of the skyline. And I also have a sneaking suspicion it will look way better in real life as opposed to the very cartoony renderings. So for those who don't like it yet, keep an open mind.

I think the boxy-ness of it fits well with Chicago too.

I'm particularly excited because presumably this won't need much financing if Wanda is going to put up nearly a $ billion to building this thing. They can probably get rolling as soon as permits are pulled.

Watching this, the GEMS part II, and the N Columbus project all going up at the same time is going to be MUY FUCKING AWESOME, it will be like the eastern counterpart of the Chicago River confluence, where there are also multiple skyscrapers u/c in close proximity.

Having Chicago building another >1000 footer is just what we need. Chicago needs to reclaim its title as a supertall builder. Enough of these 400 foot stumps. Build something real, give us something to be excited about.

The thing that stuck out to me in the Trib article that I wanted to include in my reporting is this:

Quote:
The project was first announced in early July, before proposals had been submitted to the city. The developer is now in talks with the city, though applications are not yet filed, according to the city's economic development department.
The press rollout in July was completely bungled. Obviously nobody in town had any idea that Wanda was going to release the story back then, and everybody in town from Gang to Magellan was still under NDA and couldn't say a word about the project. What's even worse than announcing something before all partners are on the same page is announcing something before telling the city and alderman about it. Anybody who's seen how things work in this town should know that (Reilly has demonstrated his willingness to kill a project just for going to the press before coming to him), especially with foreign-money projects.

The way things are rolling out this week (pre-announcement leading up to an official unveiling) is how these things usually work, and in the best case would have been the first time anybody heard anything about the project. Wanda clearly jumped the gun, at the risk of imploding the whole deal. I gotta hope that in the future, the Chicago liaisons for these international projects do a better job of coordinating the release of information, because from a PR perspective this thing has been just shy of catastrophic.

it has all the characteristics of the other skyscrapers in Chicago, but still new and interesting. boxy, big presence/ wide and thick. its now but still follows the other skyscrapers in the vicinity.

Site O hasn't been officially announced yet. Doesn't look like they're going to get started this year except maybe to clear the site.
