Yes he did get repainted, by the same artist, maybe 3 or 4 years ago. After 30-plus years, the mural was getting very faded and was peeling. It faces south after all, so it always gets some sun.

It's Thursday, or as some co-workers of mine say, "Happy Friday Eve!" So tag along with my partner and me to dinner out yet again! I'm still slightly buzzed, so please bear with me. Food pics, with some random photos thrown in! ¡Ay!

Mexican restaurant time...

Chips and guacamole and salsas.

I had a cocktail called a Sleep Now In The Fire, which was Mezcal Espadin, tepache, lime, habanero shrub, and ginger beer. It was pretty good.

Three different kinds of tacos: Taco de arrachera (skirt steak) en chile verde, chicken mole taco, and a taco with pork in tomatillo sauce. All very tasty!

And then for "dessert," a Rémy Sidecar. So good. "Get me a Rémy Martin with a water back GODDAMNIT!! Thank you. I know THEY like it, and *I*, DO, TOO...."

This non-descript little building in my opinion should be considered a historical landmark. Here, in Studio A of the Westlake Recording Studios, Michael Jackson recorded the "Thriller" album. Other artists who recorded at Westlake Studios include Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, Quincy Jones, Billy Idol, Bruce Swedien, Gilberto Gil, Missy Elliott, Madonna, Marilyn Manson, Aaliyah and Justin Timberlake.

If anyone is familiar with standup comedian Tig Notaro, you would know her story about who she saw at the California Chicken Cafe. Apparently, another new one is going in.

Loved the first pic, the Tan-Cha. Colours, shape, so urban!

I see you found some Brazilian regional food in LA. Did you like the place?

Thanks! I almost didn't post it... earlier, the sun was shining on the buildings and the yellow would've been more vibrant. But I went ahead and posted it anyway.

I did. I like fish/seafood, and most Brazilian restaurants here seem to be all about the beef. So I jumped on this place when I saw that they serve moqueca de peixe (hehe I even tried to pronounce it correctly when I told the server what I wanted--"Mokaykuh-jih-payshee" ). I was a little disappointed that it wasn't served in a pot... there's another place that does that, but it's far, but maybe eventually we'll make it there. Oh and that fish fillet wasn't mixed in. It still tasted good, though.

Yeah, you pronounced right! Moqueca is very commonly found in restaurants specialized on seafood. It's a typical food on the Northeast coast and Espírito Santo state. Pão-de-queijo is strongly associated with the landlocked Minas Gerais state, but it's widely popular everywhere. Minas Gerais is well-known for its cuisine.

About pot, well, Brazilians are a bit too traditional. People down here love their regular plate, knife and fork. Don't expect lots of creativity in this regard, unless you go to ethnic, Asian or contemporary restaurants.

Tag along with my partner and me to dinner out this Friday evening! 11.5.2021...

...to a total A-frame classic mid-century diner, with toasters on the tables. But it's not a greasy spoon! I got a very nice ahi tuna salad. They have wine, beer, and cocktails too, but I just got iced tea.
