The western yards is the funding vehicle for related’s build out of Hudson yards proper. If you recall, they were doing the office space at cost with the intention of recouping their investment through the residential sales. Also I couldn’t think of why anyone would sacrifice that land in lieu of real development. The only way I see new arena space happening in Manhattan is if they build out several piers but then transportation options will have to be built out as well. (L or 7 extension or even a crosstown light rail)

Well, a possible MSG on the Hudson Yards West Site would only take up part of the space. All around Related could build its residential towers.

That's Phase II of Hudson Yards. Will eventually be 7 million square ft. of new towers and cultural facilities. So zero chance of happening.

Because it aint happening. It doesn't have the same access. Penn Station has not only direct connections to the LIRR and NJT rail lines, but in a few years it will have Metro-North and direct access to PATH as well.

LOL. That's not happening either.

Listen people, Dolan was having a heart attack about moving the Garden across the street - to the Farley building, thinking even that was too removed from the direct access to transit. There are certainly no plans for an arena over the railyards. You think the NIMBYs are up in arms now, just try putting an arena over there on the waterfront.

The city knows that arena is in the best location it could possibly be in, especially from a transit and traffic perspective, which is even more critical now. So, dreams aside, it's best to focus on the reality.

The new tunnels are part of a larger initiative dubbed the Gateway Program — and the project’s backers say the new tubes are necessary in order to fix the existing 111-year-old Hudson River passenger rail tunnels damaged in 2012 by flooding from Hurricane Sandy.

.....Once the new tunnels are constructed and the old ones are fixed, more Amtrak and NJ Transit trains will be able to cross beneath the Hudson each hour — but there isn’t enough track capacity at Penn Station to handle much more service.

The terminal is already slated to take on more trains with the addition of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Penn Access program, which will bring some Metro-North into Penn Station via for new stations in the Bronx.

I think that a direct access of the PATH to the Penn Station it would be very important. When will be possible to have more news about it?

Steve Roth and Vornado will likely take the helm of this mega project now. They still own a significant portion of the land and will move forward with or without the state. Hotel Penn will come down, as will several other blocks around Penn Station. This news just means they'll have a few extra hurdles to go through before they can build up. As long as Vornado promises improvements to the station, they'll have no issues.

There’s very little Vornado can do outside of their own property. The state will still run the show here, same as it did during the WTC rebuilding process. It’s more important now than ever to get this done with Gateway now moving forward.

Now that the day has finally come, can we talk about how this project and others like PABT and the stupid LGA Airtrain (please die please die) and even subway car graphics might be affected now that Cuomo isn't in the governors mansion?

No, we can’t. This thread is about this proposal in particular. Any political discussions can take place elsewhere. If something is particularly affected, we will discuss that, if and when it is.

From what I understand, the property that Vornado already owns in the district is significant. To that end, the state doesn't need to run the show, but partnering with the state means streamlining the process, introducing eminent domain to acquire outstanding blocks and bypassing the city approvals.

The state will obviously support the redevelopment of Penn Station and the surrounding district. Kathy Hochul, who is known for being pro-business, will likely be a strong advocate for moving this forward.

Also, Empire State Development, the state economic development arm, is running the show re. Empire District. Was never the governor's office.

Let's not kid ourselves that Cuomo wasn't the driving force behind this. Hochul may or may not pick it up to champion. Could change form too. At a minimum the future is more murky than it was.
