I would hope this is an attempt at satire.

If you look into the sun on April 8th, then you can no longer be visually offended in the future

This is our path of totality. I'm not leaving the city, should still be cool. Even if it's cloudy, it'll be just under 93% covered in St. John's so it'll still get dark for a bit. Cool.

Gander is definitely confirmed now to be where all our media, visiting scientists, university/public college, etc. are congregating. Free viewing glasses, etc., etc. Bonavista would be a cool place to watch too, but less likely to be clear.

Debating where is best spot to see it in terms of weather. Clarity of sky.

Niagara Falls clearer or Montreal ? Which spot is sunnier ? Kingston? Toronto Island ?

Trying to find a spot between Montreal and Windsor that offers best chance of a Clear sky. any info appreciated...
If anyone answered you, I missed it, sorry!

BUT: I think it was CBC? Some media network, anyway, did an actual examination of this. There's a portion of PEI that is 10% less likely to be clouded over than anywhere else in Canada this will go through.

St. John's is at the other extreme.

I'll be in Kerrville, TX. But the day before will be in San Antonio so preparing to drive closer to Mexican border if we have to to avoid clouds. It's a bit of a crapshoot so you have to be ready to drive a bit.

In 2017 we were in Casper, WY on a mountainside overlooking the city. It was a great experience. You have to be in the path of totality to get the best effect. 99% isn't the same. Not even close, trust me.

If you can get out of the city and into the path of totality I would highly suggest it. The difference between a 99% solar eclipse (what we'll get in St. John's) and a total solar eclipse (inside the path of totality) is major. It's like the difference between almost getting laid and actually getting laid.

But, I would agree with Marty. Totality is not to be missed. Even 1% sunlight is brilliant, and spoils the effect. I witnessed the last total eclipse in PEI in 1972, and, I still remember the experience clearly to this day.

Sadly I will miss this eclipse, and, there will not be another total eclipse visible in North America for decades. In 2028, there will be an eclipse visible in Australia (passing right over Sydney). I will be retired by then, and I am already toying woth the idea of going to see it. I have never been to Australia, and this would give me a good excuse.

I'll probably take the family down to Port Stanley or St. Thomas, as both are in the path of totality (London is 98%, I believe).

It's amazing how so many cities in eastern Canada are just on the edge of totality, and, you have to drive a dozen km or so to get a good view.

Looking on timeanddate, from the southern tip of Center Island of the Toronto Islands, the Eclipse looks to be about 99.98 % obscuration. 99.98 % might just be good enough.

Lots of beach area to view from and avoid crowds plus I'm thinking being out in the open there on the island, the breeze may keep the clouds moving.

The southern tip of Center Island around where that Pier is is coordinates 43.61 N, 79.38 W. Just on edge of shadow track, may be slight margin of error.

Are not the Toronto Islands generally a bit Sunnier than on the mainland ?

If not I am leaning towards going to Montreal, may be drier to the north.

Delta Airlines is running a Special Eclipse Flight from Austin, Texas to Detroit !

Following the path of the shadow ! Cool stuff.

This plane is equipped with Extra Large windows.

The moon's shadow will move across the ground about 4 times faster than the jet. But seeing it from an Eclipse plane does extend Totality somewhat.

Every child (barring a tragic accident) has their very own middle finger.

Every child will also likely encounter use of the middle finger, and far worse, before ever finding their way here.

If it's not a school, daycare centre, or somebody's home, there is no obligation for us adults to cater to "the children".

Forecast is improving here - 9hrs of sunlight forecasted for Monday as of right now for Hamilton, so I'm hopeful we'll actually be able to see it. I'm interested to see how bad traffic is going to be on the day, I'll definitely be staying home and watching it from my yard.

Definitely go to Port Stanley or somewhere along Lake Erie that faces Southwest. That way you'll be facing the sun as well as the approaching shadow from the moon and of course the eclipse. Even if it's a cloudy day you'll at least experience the darkness and have a nice view over a large body of water.

If it's a clear day then Toronto may be good to see with eye protection the diamond ring effect as well as Baily's beads.

You're more likely to get a clearer sky the further South you go but the best thing is to watch the weather forecast for the two days leading up to the event.
