It is a perfect spot for a supertall. We can only dream though that that magic 300m barrier will be broken with an office tower/condo in Toronto.

^It would be, but this is Toronto, where, CN Tower aside, that height marker is like Kryptonite to architects and city planners. Hell, even San Francisco has a tower in the works that will be over 1000 ft.

Philadelphia, Houston, LA, San Fran, NYC (of course), Miami, Jersey City (potentially) - all have 1,000 footers on the way.

Like you said, our planners are afraid of height. But also developers, they cater to investors, so our 78 storey Aura or 75 storey 1 Bloor (even 80+ storey Holt Tower) could very well be 1,000 footers - but the developers are building shoebox units with standard ceiling heights. If these towers all had, say 9 foot-10 foot standard ceilings, I am sure we'd see more 1,000 footers.

you guys are talking about these cities which are Americans cities and are famous. even some Chinese cities- you would have never heard of have towers around 400m and now even India have towers over 300m. so why not Toronto?

view is something that make sense but what is the deal with sunlight. sunlight can cause skin cancer and other diseases.

It'll be tall enough. At 265m, it'll be just shy of Scotia Plaza and will make a huge impact on the skyline.

I know that I am getting greedy but don't you think this would be a perfect spot for a supertall? It'll make a similar impact as Ritz and RBC for the west end of the skyline. But what do I know?

First Tenant Announced for 160 Front West Office Tower

The $800 million, AS + GG Architecture-designed office tower will add 1.2 million square feet of office space and 12,290 square feet of retail space to the west edge of the Financial District, responding to historic lows in office vacancies.

Announcing the project, a statement from Cadillac Fairview President and CEO John Sullivan reads, "This city continues to experience record-low vacancy rates, fueled by demand for quality, sustainable office space across a broad array of clients, and in particular the tech and financial sectors. With space availability in downtown Toronto at the lowest level in over 25 years, we see tremendous opportunity for this development."

Located at the northeast corner of Front Street and Simcoe Street, the tower will rise 240 metres into the Financial District skyline, becoming the city's 8th tallest building in the process. Today’s news release also includes the first details of the tower’s tenants, with the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP) set to occupy a full 9 floors of the tower, relocating from their current head office in North York.

A statement from Ron Mock, President and CEO of OTPP, reads "Toronto is a vibrant and international city, and the downtown core is a major hub of finance. We believe this is the right time to plan our move closer to our partners and the pool of talent we will need to see us into the future. This new building will have many attractive elements to help foster teamwork and innovation, in a healthy and sustainable environment that is close to many different transit options.”

Construction is expected to begin next year, with plans to complete the building by Fall 2022.
