Princess Diana has probably been on the cover of this thing a half dozen times since the pandemic alone The only place I routinely see the Royal Family in my daily life - it’s on the counter of every superette, gas station, grocery, etc. - is going away.

Find something worthwhile to complain about.

Is it not a valid complaint/concern to have? I don't want any politician, regardless of who they are and what party they're part of, to be spending that much tax-payer money on travel when they don't need to

Why are you so mad it's being brought up?

Liberals did not believe such things were not worthwhile to complain about when the Tories were in power.

That being said, I am sure the PM was assigned this hotel by the organizers.

The only place except for all those streets, buildings, etc. named for them in your city, and on the money in your pocket, etc.?

guess I am not the only one that thought of Bev Oda and the famously expensive orange juice.

But the head of government, staying at a top tier hotel while on official business? I'm hardly shocked.

Exactly.

London is an already expensive city. What does one expect during the largest crowds that city has seen in a generation, when every global leader will be converging on it?

Booking the PM at the Holiday Inn Express would have resulted in guffaws and probably cost more once figuring out security/transport and the like comes into it.

Penny-wise and pound-foolish.

Well, how about the fact that that is not the suite he stayed in?

True. Lots of street names. But I can’t tell you the last time I held a physical bill.

Since YF Blanchet has said that he wasn't sincere when he took his oath to the Crown a year ago, some Liberals are trying to get him expelled from the Commons for lying under oath, or something like that.

It'll likely go nowhere.

Some Liberals must be the only people in Canada who weren't already aware of this.

The galling hypocrisy of the BQ is truly enough to make me want to toss my lunch.

They want to get rid of the Monarchy knowing that it will require a Constitutional change. In other words, they are demanding a change on a document that they themselves have never even signed.

So the couple million Canadian taxpayers who vote for the Bloc are not entitled to representation?

I suppose for the constitutional purist it could raise some interesting considerations. One could also argue that the voters' right to representation obliges the elected member to take the oath, lest he deny them their right. However, since nothing will come of it, istm that Blanchet has made a tactical boo boo - if there are no consequences to taking the "oath" (or affirmation) insincerely, what is the point of refusing to take it?

Anyway, politicians will spin it for whatever mileage they think the can get out if it.

A document that wasn't signed by Québec but that somehow still applies...

No hypocrisy here, even in the Bloc is stuck in a system they basically disagree with doens't mean that they can't want to change it.
