South Bend -

After construction progress was stymied by the pandemic, work has picked up speed again on the 23-story hotel tower addition to Four Winds Casino. The initial $400 million casino was opened in 2016. The cost of the tower addition is undisclosed. This is the largest casino in the state. Photos from February, May, and a rendering -

Here's a link to the University of Notre Dame's facilities page for all projects, both past and current. Current projects include the McKenna Hall replacement and Remick Family Hall. The University is also in the midst of a hydroelectric plant on the St. Joseph River, in partnership with South Bend’s Venues Parks & Arts.

I'll try and expand upon these projects over time (others are welcome to as well)!

The original McKenna Hall was deconstructed beginning in Fall 2019. The new McKenna Hall is quite far along and will open in Fall of this year. The 85,000+ SF facility will provide space for conferences, fellowship, and enrollment functions. Here's three renderings and a screen grab from the construction camera -

Valparaiso -

Ground was broken for the new Valparaiso Boys & Girls Club in April. The 37,000 SF, $9 million facility will feature classrooms, two gymnasiums, and rock climbing walls in the main lobby. It is being built on an 8 acre site at 708 Evans Ave.

Though I think the building has been completed for several months, Barnes & Thornburg officially celebrated a ribbon cutting for its new office space in downtown South Bend today -

I was in town the other day and took a couple pictures of things. First, here are a couple angles of the Riverfront at Promenade Park:

I figured while I was around for the evening I would try to snap a picture of the Bradley construction (not very visible but you can see the top and the crane!) Or at least, I think it is the crane for this development. I noticed after that it has the STAR banner on it, so maybe it is for their new headquarters which is going up over there. Either way.

Then finally while I was walking around I noticed the signs for this project, which I hadn't seen before and didn't recognize. I tried to look it up but wasn't able to find anything on it. Maybe someone here knows more?

It is located at the intersection of Clinton and Wayne, at 202 Wayne. Looks like it is going to be mixed use?

As stated before, the views of The Riverfront at Promenade as well as the view of The Ashberry / The Bradley are all from Promenade Park.

Thanks for the photo updates! (is it possible to shrink them down a little though?)

Yeah, I think that red crane in your third photo must be for the STAR Financial Bank HQ (aka The Ashberry) development, since the Bradley is basically finished. I didn't realize STAR Bank was u/c already though.

And I hadn't heard of 202 Wayne either. The rendering in your last photo looks very similar to earlier renderings for STAR Bank development, seen in this 2018 article.

Compare this rendering to the one in your photo. They sure seem similar, don't they?

Chesterton (Indiana Dunes) -

I thought I'd share this project at Indiana Dunes State Park. The old pavilion was recently remodeled and restored. It has a pretty cool history and backstory, dating to the 1930's. Here it is on Google Maps, before the reno.

Hey again, was in town (again) and decided to take a few more pictures, especially of things I hadn't shown earlier. I tried to size them down this time, hopefully it worked!

This is a closer look at The Ashberry. Looks under construction to me!

These two are of the finished exterior of The Bradley. I apologize for the angles on these, not the best.

Finally, a couple more of The Riverfront at Promenade Park.

Also, about the 202 Wayne project, if it is an earlier version of The Ashberry, seems a little silly to keep those mock-ups there, especially after construction on the actual project has begun!

It has taken a long time to come to fruition, but that Mishawaka riverfront area is really starting to come together nicely! The new ice rink/cafe looks to have been inspired by the relatively new and extremely well done renovated Howard Park and Public House addition next door in South Bend.

With the understanding that rankings are usually highly subjective, here's some good news for Fort Wayne -

Fort Wayne Ranks Among ‘Best-Run Cities’

Fort Wayne ranks 3rd in the country, behind Nampa, ID and Boise, ID respectively. This, according to a study conducted by WalletHub which attempts to compare the quality of services residents receive against a city’s total budget.

City announces new developer for mixed-use project in southeast Fort Wayne
WPTA 21
July 13, 2021

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - A new mixed-use project is coming to the southeast side of Fort Wayne that will offer housing, commercial space and more. The City of Fort Wayne's Community Development Division along with Mayor Tom Henry announced a development team has been chosen to develop a mixed-use project near the intersection of McKinnie Avenue and Plaza Drive...
This is fine for the area if they get it done; they need a better name than "Village Premier" though!
