I drove by yesterday and saw them demolishing that massive block of concrete. What a lot of work just to hold a crane...that plus the caissons that hold that block.

That will surely be the most stable stretch of sidewalk in the whole province

The block and caissons must be removed after construction completion, but the city will not allow them to be jacked out due to all the services in close proximity to them. The designers and builder buried a rock saw loop around them during installation. When doing removal they will excavate to the saw loop, cut the caissons, and lift them out.

The water main runs under the west curb of Carlton. It is an asbestos pipe, so it is very fragile. The city doesn't like it when contractors use large equipment on top of lines like that.
