Nice pic. I appreciate the novelty of standing in the TNS courtyard being surrounded by relatively new buildings... there aren't many places in Winnipeg that can deliver that feeling.

I drove by yesterday and saw them demolishing that massive block of concrete. What a lot of work just to hold a crane...that plus the caissons that hold that block.

That will surely be the most stable stretch of sidewalk in the whole province

I'm going to miss the de facto road diet that block of Carlton has been enjoying.

Taken late yesterday afternoon.
They've been at this for soooo long!

Two units working day after day to take apart that base and a week later, there's still a lot of work to do!

It's crazy - two giant jackhammers working at it for a week straight.

There are large dump trucks full of soil lined up down Carlton. I guess they're planning on filling the hole today?

I wonder if it would've been easier to cut the concrete into blocks. There's a lot of steel in there IIRC, so maybe it'd be too hard.

Di tech has a wire cutting process that was used on a project i worked on. Pretty neat.

The block and caissons must be removed after construction completion, but the city will not allow them to be jacked out due to all the services in close proximity to them. The designers and builder buried a rock saw loop around them during installation. When doing removal they will excavate to the saw loop, cut the caissons, and lift them out.

I am sure I have the City to thank for a portion last years bump in my house insurance rates. What a ridiculous requirement.

The water main runs under the west curb of Carlton. It is an asbestos pipe, so it is very fragile. The city doesn't like it when contractors use large equipment on top of lines like that.

Must be loud and annoying for everyone hearing the jackhammering echoing downtown for days on end.

Said dump trucks of soil turned out to be for the weekend monster truck show at the arena, and nothing to do with Wawanesa.

Last of the crane block debris are being cleared now, though.

As Zalf noted, there's cleaning up going on today.
