I’m guessing they either replace one of the older hotels if they are adding 2 more new hotels.

I believe when I read about potential high-rise development at Park Central, it was mentioned the high-rise would be going where the 1 level garage is currently. Don't recall exactly where I read that. But it would make sense.

Developers plan Hilton dual-branded hotel for midtown Phoenix

Should break ground before the end of the year...

More than 200 new hotel rooms are planned at the site of the reimagined Park Central Mall.

Plaza Companies, Holualoa Companies and Fayth Hospitality Group announced Tuesday that they will collaborate on developing a Hilton dual-branded hotel at Park Central at 3121 N. 3rd Ave. The hotels will comprise 207 rooms between Home2Suites and Tru by Hilton. Under the partnership, Plaza Cos. is the construction manager, Holualoa is the asset manager and Fayth will be the hotel operator upon completion of the hotel.

The group has selected Layton Construction as its general contractor. Bell Bank will provide construction financing. Construction is expected to begin before the end of the year.

I don't think other midtown hotels on Central have been killing it. I'm not sure what the demand looks like in midtown. Who is the person staying in Phoenix who doesn't want to be either at a resort, downtown, near the airport, or near where their family lives? Midtown is none of those things.

Families visiting patients at the nearby hospital. Business travelers needing to stay in Midtown rather than downtown. Students visiting the Creighton nursing school. Plus there is plenty of residential in the area where people live, and a lot of new residential. It would be centralized and close to some of my family, for example. Besides, being located on the light rail means you are directly connected to downtown, ASU, Tempe, the airport, etc. I don't see why there wouldn't be demand, especially as the area grows.

It will be a great location, a little cheaper option than the downtown hotels and just a couple light rail stops away. More new restaurants being added as we speak, great centralized location. Everything AZ Denial said as well. I do wonder what is going on at that Ramada hotel on Osborn. It says it’s closed for repairs, it’s been closed for probably over 6 months now.

If it's such a great location, shouldn't you also be surprised at the lack of height and rooms?

I wasn't saying there is zero need. I was saying I wasn't surprised that like the rest of midtown, it's a low rise building. And while there is some natural demand, this won't be a destination location anytime soon.

Perhaps it could be downtown overflow as you suggest but there's a lot of new hotel rooms going in downtown so that problem is decreasing.

Temporary fencing is up for the hotel lot. Not long until another lot bites the dust. Hopefully, the 2nd phase of Creighton will start in the near future and that will pretty much take care of all the Park Central blacktop fronting Central Ave.

They need to get it figured out over there I like to go to zipps and now the parking situation is a nightmare and the parking "garage" has like one entrance on the backside of the property

Can't you use the 9 story garage to the south and avoid all that?

Exited to see the signs up for EoS. I didn't notice any actual construction, but it looks like it will be on the North side, perhaps upstairs? This will shave 20 minutes or more off my drive to the downtown location that is not 24 hours.

A lot of new hotels downtown? Help me remember:
  • Home2Suites behind Footprint Center
  • Moxy (Marriott) in the Luhrs Building
  • The Edith behind Hanny's

Any others?

The only other I can think of is the crypto hotel that is supposed to go where the current Travelodge is (6th Ave & Van Buren).

Some other new ones include

Hyatt Place on 2nd Ave
AC Hotel at Arizona Center

Also worth noting that with all the new multi fam and improvements in Garfield and areas near Grand Ave, the number of short term rentals has exploded. There was almost zero activity in this space a decade ago and now there are hundreds of options.

I didn't realize Park Central was getting this.
