I wonder if Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit is also included in this package as well... I live very close to the rail alignment, which will run between Cloverdale in northern Sonoma County and Larkspur in central Marin County (with a ferry connection to San Francisco).

The N. Rampart St./St. Claude Ave. Streetcar Route broke ground in January here in New Orleans. It's a 1.6 mile route from Canal St. to Elysian Fields Ave., and will service the French Quarter, Treme', Marigny, and Seventh Ward neighborhoods.

I've updated the list to include New Orleans' Rampart streetcar. The Union Terminal streetcar opened in 2013 but was still on the list, so I moved it down to complete (meaning the total mileage of streetcar under construction increased by <1 mile.)

SMART is already on the list, and testing still counts as construction so Houston remains as well.

Wellllll... intercity rail is really a different animal, and if we included that then we'd have to include other Amtrak projects too.

I don't oppose adding them to the list, but it would be a lot of research to track down every Amtrak project. If someone else wants to do that then I'll happily edit the top post to include that work, but I don't think it's a project I want to take on.

Planners will break ground Thursday on the new 2.2-mile, $43 million Loop Trolley linking the Delmar Loop and Forest Park.

Work will begin on the western end of the alignment. The construction kickoff is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Limit Avenue and Delmar Boulevard in University City. Track work should begin in late May, officials said.
By the time it is up and running — projected sometime late in 2016 — project planners expect the trolley to carry about 394,000 passengers a year.

a lot of the urban inner suburban commercial districts in st. louis county just beyond the city limits were called "loops" for the reason explained above, but the delmar loop is the only one that is still called that and co-opted the name THE loop. there is also the wellston loop, sutton (maplewood) loop, etc.

Bad news for america, but the good news for you is that theres really nothing going on.

After the downeastern extension and the vermonter reroute were done, most ongoing amtrak projects are just track improvement and not new lines.

I mean there are tiny things, like the Amtrak terminus in Miami maybe moving 2 miles to MIC, and Amshacks being replaced all the time, but not new track mileage really.

OK fine. I added a couple of bullets for the CA high speed rail, and a catch-all for Amtrak's ongoing track improvement projects.

I also added the Dallas Oak Cliff streetcar, which will open April 13 but which wasn't on the list.

The AMTRAK terminus is nearly complete at the MIC but there was a huge gaffe between AMTRAK & the FL. DOT when they built the platforms too short by 200 feet to accommodate longer trains that would block a key intersection at NW 25th. street. The state of Florida blames Amtrak.

The Dallas Streetcar phase one line to Oak Cliff from Downtown begins testing this week. Phase two has been bid on, but, contract not awarded just yet for extension further south into Oak Cliff so further construction hasn't quite started yet. Estimated completion date of phase two is Spring or Fall 2016. Phase 3 is Spring 2017, which is a short loop in downtown. Further phases are just planned at this point. Since the M-Line that uses historical vintage trolleys also got funding from FTA for the Urban Circulator loop route (tracks laid and opening soon also), it'll be less seemingly-touristy - plus part of its tracks are up to modern streetcar specs now. I don't expect the line to be on DARTs maps anytime soon like the D Streetcar will, but, it did at least accept the generous offer from Cameron over at Transit Maps Blog to use his carefully made map. Great job Cameron!

The last 3 miles/2 stations of paid-for DART light rail is officially under construction. The DART Blue Line South Oak Cliff extension.
