I prefer Mary-Ann’s Hammocks. She gets in the hammock with you.

Sorry Esquire, we have no idea what we are talking about...going off the rails.

I noticed on my way to work this morning (6 am so its dark) that the large 70's commie block renovation that is happening on Plaza Dr has some really nice and prominent, colourful LED lighting in it. It looked great from Bishop. I'd love to see more buildings lit up.

I noticed that too.

That type of architectural lighting has long been common in other parts of the world, you often see it in Asia, for instance. I know some might think it's corny or contrived, but I have to admit, I kind of like the bright colourful lights, especially in the winter when it's dark for so much of the time. I wouldn't mind seeing some more of it, especially now that LED lighting has gotten so much better in recent years. (I wouldn't mind seeing IG Field get that treatment too...)

Speaking of, whatever happened to that elaborate plan to light up buildings along Portage?

Off topic from Pembina. But I love the new LED lighting on Esplanade Riel. My 3 year old loves it too haha Really makes it stand out at night and is visible from places you might not otherwise notice the bridge.

For whatever it's worth, Newport Centre, 220 Portage, and the Richardson Building all have multicolour nighttime exterior lighting.

^ Interesting, the Richardson Building has had it for a while but I haven't noticed it on those others.

220 Portage Ave is covered in a blue light all around. It projects up from the podium all over the building.

^ Ah yes, now I remember. For some reason I was thinking 200 Portage... I thought maybe that one recently got the LED architectural lighting treatment.

Vic's open now-- article in today's Free Press. Anyone know what's happening with the old Vic's building? Site plans for the new apartment building where the Cambridge Hotel is show the Vic's building still there; I can't imagine them keeping it when the rest of the site will be completely redeveloped.

That is a depressing building. It looks bland, cheap, and adds an impermeable wall along Pembina Hwy. The few small windows are positioned high off the ground, which’s prevents any interaction between the market and sidewalk/street. The old location was a nice brick with lots of floor to ceiling windows. Seems like a step down to me.

^ This grey building trend just has to stop. Also annoying that so many buildings are still being built with a basically perpendicular orientation to the street.

Wow What a beauty!
So proud to see this showstopper built.
Almost a splendiferous as the 6 floor barely occupied white box on Osborne.
So colourful.
Look at the exquisite finishings..
One look at this stunning cheerful edifice and a person feeling down,
blue even a bit depressed will light right up.
So cheerful and stunning world class design.
