i need to make a chart or something to follow all this south Michigan stuff. I lost track of it in my head.
-46 story thing at 1300 (MB Real Estate)
-1000 s michigan
-Big new thing next to Essex Inn at 8th street (Oxford Capital?)
-The big thing on Roosevelt which isn't actually on Michigan but would become part of the wall enveloping Grant Park.
-Some hypothetical 86 story building somewhere mentioned by some guy on cab
I think two of those might be the same.
Jahn at 1000 S. Michigan and the random 86 floor tower comment are one in the same.
I hope all these south loop projects take off. All these projects mean a much needed boost to the pedestrian experience in the south loop.
Me too. Even if a decent number of them take off, we're looking at boom times again the remainder of the decade in the South Loop........it was only a matter of time, the fundamentals of the location are far too compelling.....

I don't mean bKL isn't "there" capabilities-wise, just in terms of landing those kinds of projects or being on developers' radars for supertall designs. LSE would be a safer bet for them, since it's home turf.
I'd just love to see a bKL in the South Loop, period - regardless of height. Plenty of B+L down in these parts, time to throw a bKL into the mix......

A 12 story, 96 unit, 265 parking spot, and 8 retail storefront building is proposed for Jefferson Park, next to the transit center. The community meeting for the project is set for Sep 30th at 6:30pm. Alderman John Arena appears to be in support of adding residential to the area to increase foot traffic for businesses. Note: none of the parking will be guaranteed for residents. It will all be for surrounding office and retail uses.
Cue the Jefferson Park NIMBY hurricane! Too tall, too dense, not enough parking, too much traffic, should be a strip mall, wont someone think of the children!

It also appears that the meeting we thought was for the vinoly tower is actually for this tower.
Hopefully both, but we'll see. 3rd ward meetings are the only ones I can ever stand because there's hardly any NIMBYs and the south side alderman has no patience for the rich old people who are NIMBYs she inherited when her district absorbed the south loop.
^^It has a very interesting dialogue with the old Executive House. Probably was not intended, but the new glass wall obviously references the Executive House, but the stainless steel spandrels on the older building appear to reappear on the new London House (albeit in a painted gray).
^^^ It's an extremely deferential design and I don't think that is at all an accident. The vertical bays of the facade match the vertical bays of Mather Tower, the horizontal elements obviously line up with the various neo classical ledges and cornices of the London Guarantee Building and the facade materials obviously echo Executive House. This design is very similar to the referential elements of Trump Tower in that way.
However, I will say the glass looks nowhere near that nice IRL. I was just down on the Wabash bridge today myself and it looks like saran wrap from many angles a little closer up, particularly from the North.
Regardless, I think it does a great job of rounding out this block and creates an extremely pleasant pattern of old and new.
