Don’t talk about quarantine anymore! It’s over! Let it go! Forget it! Let bring foreign visitors in, but there is no banned from entering Hong Kong. No such things! It’s free country.

Qantas Won’t Reopen Its Hong Kong Lounge Post COVID
August 27, 2021
Simple Flying Excerpt

News has emerged that Australian flag carrier Qantas will not be reopening its lounge at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) once it resumes scheduled services in February 2022. The airline says that while it expects demand to remain high, it has become difficult to justify maintaining its own facilities at HKG. Instead, Qantas has reached an agreement with Cathay Pacific for access to the carrier’s premium lounges.

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce confirmed the closure to Executive Traveler on Thursday. The Chief Executive stated that,

“All of our other international lounges will be reopened, but in Hong Kong, we’ve come to a relationship with Cathay to use their premium lounges there.”

The lounge access would be reciprocal, with fellow oneworld member Cathay Pacific being able to use Qantas’ lounges in Australia. Joyce further added that Qantas had looked at everything it would need in each individual market when planning its post-pandemic recovery strategy.

Nice photos. I think Cathey Pacific has added more 747/777/A350 cargo flights so maybe that is to offset the China East slowdown.

Cargo has stayed resilient throughout the pandemic.

From the latest traffic data : https://www.hongkongairport.com/en/m...e/2021/pr_1557

Cargo throughput at HKIA in July recorded double-digit growth of 12.4%. Transshipments recorded strong growth of 21%. Both imports and exports also experienced double-digit growth. Cargo to and from Southeast Asia experienced the most significant increase during the month.

Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific initiates disciplinary action against unvaccinated flight crew
Sept 2, 2021
South China Morning Post Excerpt

Cathay Pacific has begun disciplinary proceedings against dozens of flight attendants and pilots who have refused to get a Covid-19 jab, making good on its promise to review the employment of those still unvaccinated by an August 31 deadline.

Between 60 and 80 aircrew are in the firing line, sources have told the Post, as the airline has begun questioning their lack of inoculation records.

As of Tuesday, all of the airline’s flights were being operated by fully vaccinated crews.

Coronavirus: another blow for Hong Kong helpers as Cebu Pacific becomes second airline banned since vaccination records deal
Sep 3, 2021
South China Morning Post Excerpt

Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ largest budget airline, has been banned from operating passenger flights from Manila to Hong Kong for two weeks from Friday, in yet another blow to Filipino domestic helpers only recently granted the right to once again travel to the city for work.

In an advisory issued on Tuesday night, the airline said the government had temporarily prohibited the entry of its passenger flights from Manila, after four travellers who departed the Philippine capital on September 1 tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival in Hong Kong.

National carrier Philippine Airlines was hit with a similar 14-day ban only last week. Cebu Pacific has cancelled flight 5J272 from Manila to Hong Kong from September 3 to 16, while its return flight from the city to Manila, 5J 273, will proceed as scheduled.

Tarmac works for Hong Kong’s third runway completed, marking halfway point of HK$141.5 billion airport expansion
South China Morning Post Excerpt
Sep 7, 2021

Hong Kong airport bosses on Tuesday announced the completion of tarmac works on the third runway, marking the halfway point of a HK$141.5 billion (US$18.2 billion) expansion of the city’s aviation hub.

In its most substantive update on the project since construction began in 2016, the Airport Authority said the process remained on schedule and within budget, a significant feat given some of the city’s major infrastructure works had encountered delays and cost overruns.

With the expected 2022 partial launch of the new runway, the existing northern stretch will be closed for modifications.

Greater Bay Airlines’ hopes for 2021 launch dashed by Hong Kong inquiry set for late December
South China Morning Post Excerpt
Sep 8, 2021

Hong Kong air authorities will hold a private inquiry in late December into Greater Bay Airlines’ bid to become the city’s newest carrier, two sources have told the Post, a major delay that will derail the fledgling company’s hopes for a 2021 fourth-quarter launch.

Sources said the closed-door hearing would see the nine-member Air Transport Licensing Authority (ATLA) panel dissect the carrier’s detailed submissions and weigh responses from rivals Cathay Pacific Group and Hong Kong Airlines.

China East is back with their 777W flights to ORD. Now it is EVA's turn to stop flights due to crews getting Covid 19, but those flights originate from Taiwan not China.
