Agreed. How many more of these will it take for the distaste of this uninspired, cheap, and repetitive facade system to finally outweigh the whole "it's better than nothing" mentality.

That being said the presence of Salesforce is impressive, and I do enjoy the activation of the river and ground level in general. 150 and River Point were fine, but the rest made this area of downtown mighty soulless.

Oh well, it happened and it's here. No point in dwelling on it.

I unfortunately agree, but have been trying to reserve my judgment until they hit the setbacks. All the depth is focused towards the South Branch of the river, though the view from the east / riverwalk looks remarkably flat (so far).

Idk, besides NYC no city in north America is building 4 800ft office towers. It's a spectacular transformation from 5 years ago.

You guys must be real fun at parties.

It is quite slab-like from three out of four sides. I definitely wish the facade in general had more depth to it. The unglazed steel actually look better than the flat expanses of blue glass we're getting. The design is so bland the mechanical floors are an architectural highlight. Here's to hoping the details around the base and landscaping dress it up a bit.

Where are you getting four? I count two 800-footers: 110 N Wacker and Salesforce.

Right , Riverpoint is 727', 150 N Riverside is 725' and Boma is 732'. But I share Briguys point. This is an incredible section of urban landscape. Its going to be a great tour boat season with SF reaching full height.

Is building 800 footers? What about 1000M.

I am also happy that the LED screens will be a part of the lobby but I also wonder if it raises a way to circumvent future signage advertising that would be prohibited if on the outside of the building.

If the lobby always puts up cool artistic imaging for the next 50 years then great. If they want to put up quasi-tacky Salesforce logo images or worse yet, sell ad space to other companies on their LED space what is to prevent them? If the Riverwalk only increases in popularity I suspect the inclination to sell such a canvas as ad space would only grow.

I have to say, the elegant and cohesive glass treatment of the mechanical floors helps offset much of the banality in the design. If only Vista (St Regis) had employed something similar... hopefully when those condos are sold someday they'll pool their money to upgrade that façade treatment lol. Now that I've seen what's possible here, I will no longer excuse ugly mechanical floor paneling.

Last week I got to visit Chicago for the first time and was able to take some photos while I was being a tourist! All were taken by me on my phone on 04/07/2022. I did the Architecture Cruise and this building was very prominent from all angles on the rivers.

The sign was only permitted in the first place because it is a "work of art with no commercial message". Same as Art on the Mart.

The second they start showing any commercial messages/ads, the city can come shut them down as they will be in violation of numerous signage restrictions.

Excellent. I remember reading an article about a permit for the signage but I was thinking that was for the top of the tower not at the base. Good to know.

Those screens have now become my favorite element of this building!! Bless the city for swiftly passing those restrictions after the Trump sign went up, can't have our iconic river canyon transforming into Times Square.

^Beautiful pic

This building is going up sooo slow. The glass is only a little bit higher than the position it was at in December.

not really. foundation work only started on this one back in May of 2020, so we're not even at the 2 year mark yet. that's not an egregiously slow pace for an 850' office tower.

^She certainly has a presence from these angles.

It's a shame she doesn't have horizontal detailing similar to One Vanderbuilt. That would help break up all this blue glass
