Parts of google earth/google maps will have areas without 3d buildings, making it only 2d imagery. Until something changes, it'll stay that way. Of course, there's Streetview to look at the buildings too.

Here is a link explaining why:

https://support.google.com/maps/thre...n-3d-why?hl=en
https://support.google.com/earth/thr...?msgid=2298894

Quote:
13. What areas can I see in 3D?
You can see what areas have 3D imagery by viewing the 3D Imagery layer in Voyager. We do not have 3D imagery available in all areas. However, you are much more likely to find 3D imagery over major urban areas in North America and Europe than in Asia or Australia due to local flight regulations.
Quote:
14. How often are 3D areas updated?
We do not have a set refresh schedule for 3D imagery. Also, not all 3D imagery will be updated and some may be replaced with newer 2D imagery that is more useful. However, for key markets and for coverage expansion we make a continual best effort to refresh and expand our 3D imagery coverage.
Quote:
15. Can I suggest 3D imagery for an area?
Yes. This imagery is more challenging to update, but we encourage you to let us know where you would like to see new 3D imagery. Within the Google Earth menu you can click on Send Feedback and use the text “I would like to recommend a 3D imagery collect” in the feedback window. And just like with a standard imagery request, please make sure that your area of interest is positioned in the middle of your screenshot and note that this is a suggestion and not an agreement to fulfill the request.

Capital One files new development plans for Tysons

By Tristan Navera
Washington Business Journal

“Capital One Financial Corp. (NYSE: COF) has filed plans to redevelop the site formerly known as Scotts Run North adjacent to its Tysons headquarters.

The banking giant has proposed a new park to replace what is largely a 7.3-acre parking lot north of the intersection of Dolley Madison Boulevard (Route 123) and Scotts Crossing Road. A baseball field would consume the northern half of the site with a smaller park feature on the western corner.

Capital One East Park, as it's called in filings, would have stone and brick paths lined with trees, a play area for children and a pond, as well as a potential carousel or a feature similar to it. The synthetic turf baseball field would be lit and include batting cages, dugouts and bullpens on either side with some small bleachers behind home plate. Most of the rest of the space would be rebuilt into a smaller parking lot...”

Dulles International Airport Proposes New 14-Gate Concourse

Dulles International Airport Proposes New 14-Gate Concourse

Quote:
Facility would replace current outdoor boarding areas, expand passenger amenities, support new jobs

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is proposing a new concourse at Washington Dulles International Airport to replace outdoor boarding areas currently used by regional flights, upgrade aircraft service facilities and bring new conveniences and amenities to passengers.

The proposed “Tier-2 Concourse (East)” would be a modern 14-gate facility with convenient access to the airport’s underground Aerotrain system and would include new shops, restaurants and other customer services as well as the latest aircraft-servicing technologies to accommodate future needs. It would replace gates built in the 1990s at the eastern end of Concourse A, where many regional-flight passengers currently go outdoors to access their planes via covered walkways.

“This new concourse would represent a major improvement in the passenger experience at the regional gates,” said Airports Authority President and CEO Jack Potter, calling the project “the first step in a long-term strategy to expand and enhance the facilities and services at Dulles International Airport as we look toward the future.”

To attain partial funding for the project, the Airports Authority has applied for a Federal Aviation Administration grant under the recently enacted Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which includes a competitive grant program to help airports upgrade or replace aging facilities. The application seeks $230 million to begin development of the 400,000-square-foot facility, which is expected to ultimately cost between $500 million and $800 million. The Airports Authority is working with United Airlines, the largest carrier serving Dulles, and other airlines in planning the design, funding and construction of the new concourse.

“United recognizes the critical importance this new concourse will serve both as an economic driver and job creator in the region,” said Nathan Lopp, vice president, Corporate Real Estate. “This state of the art facility will also help deliver a best in class customer experience for our passengers at Dulles, and provide them with more flights to more destinations—the same goals we have for our United Next strategy. As the leading airline at Washington Dulles, we strongly encourage the Federal Aviation Administration to approve MWAA’s grant application.”

Potter said that once the Tier-2 Concourse (East) proposal receives all the necessary approvals for construction and funding, the project would provide hundreds of construction and service jobs, and he also noted that the Airports Authority has completed all the necessary studies for the project under the National Environmental Policy Act, making the project “shovel ready” under guidelines of the FAA grant program. The proposed concourse also meets additional criteria of the FAA program, including:

* Improved convenience and connectivity for travelers navigating the airport;
* More space (400,000 square feet versus 110,000 square feet in the current facility) for larger seating areas, more concessions, airline lounges, ADA-compliant restrooms, and other amenities;
* Larger operational areas for servicing aircraft, handling baggage and other airport and airline support functions; and
* Enhanced sustainability features, including electric vehicles to service aircraft and carry passengers, increased usage of the electric Aerotrain to move passengers to and from the new gates; energy-efficient construction featuring LED lighting, high R-value insulation and high-efficiency climate control systems that will follow LEED Silver building standards.

In 2021, the Airports Authority opened a new 14-gate concourse for regional flights at Reagan National Airport, which replaced outdoor boarding areas with spacious new seating areas, concessions and other amenities. The construction program at Reagan National, called Project Journey, also added two large security screening buildings to provide new services and improve the passenger experience.

Great news for Dulles! This will be the start of the permanent C/D concourse to replace the old "temporary" C/D concourse. If they can build the permanent C/D concourse, then Dulles will finally be fully modernized and will likely be one of the best airports in the country.

Nice. My late grandmother lived in a residence by "The Mather". Really great amenity to have in this dense pocket of VA. Looks beautiful so far.

High-rise apartment building approved for office complex near Spring Hill Metro

By Angela Woolsey

"The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has agreed to let a planned office building near the Spring Hill Metro station become an apartment high-rise instead.

At a public hearing on July 25, the board unanimously approved American Real Estate Partners’ City House proposal, a move that both the county and developer hope will catalyze change in a largely dormant part of Tysons.

“I think we’re optimistic that these improvements will ensure a revitalization of this area,” Walsh Colucci land use lawyer Lynne Strobel said, representing the developer. “It’s an area that has been rather slow to redevelop under the Tysons plan. Even though there have been approvals, not much has been built, so we’re hopeful this will activate this part of Tysons..."

The Boro - Tysons

Construction is underway to expand The Boro in Tysons

Quote:
Where the National Automobile Dealers Association’s headquarters once stood, there is now only dirt.

Demolition of the former NADA building at 8400 Westpark Drive in Tysons is complete, and construction is underway to expand The Boro to the north side of Westpark Drive near the Greensboro Metro station.
So far, work has concentrated on “Block J” of the mixed-use development’s expansion, according to Tanya Graves, senior vice president of marketing & tenant services at The Boro.
That block consists of The Trillium, the 16-story, 198-room continuing care facility from Silverstone Senior Living. Planned amenities include a cafe, lounge and restaurant and a first-floor wellness center with exercise equipment, yoga studios, a day spa, and salon, according to Silverstone.

Conversion of Sheraton Tysons Hotel into multi-family housing approved

By Angela Woolsey
January 30, 202
FFXNow

Tysons West developer JBG Smith is seeking to convert the Sheraton Tysons Hotel into housing (via Fairfax County)

"The former Sheraton Tysons Hotel is officially getting turned into permanent housing.

With no objections and minimal discussion, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a plan last Tuesday (Jan. 23) to convert the vacant hotel at 8661 Leesburg Pike in Tysons West into 544 residential units.

The units are expected to be small studios, but because the developer is repurposing an existing building instead of constructing a new one, they will provide a “naturally occurring” affordable housing option for Tysons, according to Walsh Colucci land use attorney Robert Brant, who represented JBG Tysons Hotel at the public hearing.."
