This location doesn't really hit the skyline. The other 3 towers fill that in as best they can. IMO, having 2 towers fills out the more local skyline/street scene.
I did the math. Using residential averages from nearby residential builds.
With 28 floors it would likely come in slightly taller (94 - 97m) than Wawanesa which is 93m. If 28 floors plus the podium = 31 floors then it will be over 100 m, likely 104 - 108.
In that case it would be noticeable on the skyline.
Perhaps the empty pad would be built on to accommodate more dining or banquet space?

They always integrate their restaurants with their hotels, so I assume one or two of them to be at street level.

Has there been any new renders of the single tower? I'm not sure were it will be located, north side of the base, south side or in the middle?

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm absolutely coming at this from a position of ignorance, but if there were going to be changes to the design, and construction, we're told, is resuming next month, wouldn't those changes need to have gone back to the City for approval?

I think a lot of this sounds like rumor and conjecture. Big game of telephone that starts with one person speculating that perhaps a taller tower would be cool, eventually after many permutations turns into this idea that's circulating that they've definitely changed their plans and are now building a 50 floor hotel tower

Why would you want to build that monstrosity there?

I heard that actually they've decided to build a perfect replica of 111 W 57th, complete with views of (Winnipeg's) Central Park.

It's too tall. We like our towers short and fat in these parts.

I feel like you've been plotting this setup for years. Putting that spire into all our minds. And then BLAMMO, call it a monstrosity when someone else suggests it.

Of course I would want that there.

But when I heard they are making just one now, I was outraged. I thought this was our chance to get two of these beautiful towers.

Not what I heard. I heard Shindico is taking over to build it into the world's largest Super 8.
