I already shared this on the other thread, but I thought I'd post it again here:

My map of the UBC Extension with possible potential corridors and stations.

https://skytrain.ubc.ca/about-the-project/
* Despite what's shown here, there will almost certainly be station located on Jericho Lands, as its planning process have revealed.

https://skytrain.ubc.ca/about-the-project/

Quote:
The Current Transit System is Falling Short
UBC is one of the region’s busiest transit destinations, with over 1,000 buses per day, most travelling along the congested Broadway corridor. This massive volume of bus traffic is clogging things up, causing long, slow commutes for people who use the Broadway and adjacent corridors and lower productivity for businesses in the area.
https://skytrain.ubc.ca/why-skytrain/

Quote:
$1 in $10 of Metro Vancouver’s GDP
Activity along Broadway accounts for 8-10% of the region’s economic activity

$15.5 billion in direct economic output
Generated by a vibrant business community providing a wide range of goods and services

The Broadway Ecosystem
The Broadway Corridor is uniquely placed within Metro Vancouver’s regional economy – housing the leading academic and research capabilities of UBC, key health and research clusters like the Oak-Cambie Healthcare Precinct and the growing Mount Pleasant technology hub, all with links to the downtown core, Vancouver International Airport, and growing economic centres across the region.

Before this thread get's too far into the personal fantasies, and debates about what constitutes the start of construction, I thought it would be good to include some data from one of the stakeholders.

Great data. There's a really strong connection between UBC and the VGH/Health Sciences area, where parking is a total nightmare. This will be great.

And despite what the Condonbots insist, Zoom and Teams are insufficient for those kinds of meetings.

Much like Diego's image, I've built a Google Maps version of the proposed route, with data linked to all the studies, data on all of the large development proposals coming up (with links to the development details), and various proposed routes.
All you have to do is click on the highlighted stations, lines, or neighbourhoods to see the data:

Well, after all that kerfuffle in the other Millennium line thread, I think this one needs the "Proposed" suffix to make it official.

Yeah, they had some other argument before they even knew what those tools were.

Very cool, thanks!

Does anybody know what the justification is for the end spot of the line? I'm not too familiar with UBC, but wouldn't something just a little closer to Thunderbird and the other sports fields be better, like right on W16th for other connections?

Is that area where it ends super dense with student activity?

Heh, do you mean when they insisted that SkyTrain was a monopoly, or that we should've build student housing on the golf courses instead?

That's Wesbrook - once finished, it'll effectively house a third of the entire university.

Oh who knows. Something about Europe and trams.

Ah ok, makes sense then, thanks.

Removing the parade of 99 buses (and the subway construction) will improve driving time.

That will be marginal at best. Adding more traffic lights and making the signal cycles more pedestrian-friendly will more than offset this.

If you want to get from any of the above locations (except YVR) to UBC fast, you take the train. Pretty simple calculus to me

commercial traffic doesnt take transit. You think goods just magically teleport?

Good thing TransLink's building a grade-separated line capable of moving 25,000 people/hour - now everybody who can possibly take the SkyTrain is free to do so, leaving Broadway and 12th open for trades and truckers. Works for Paris, HK and Osaka.
