So you believe patio furniture was flying around the city's SFH neighbourhoods? Let's hope for those strata's sakes nobody was brained by that furniture or they'll have a nasty lawsuit on their hands combined with a hefty hike in their insurance!

Trees and branches falling on houses, backyard patio furniture flying around, landslides on the hilly areas.... weather affects your precious single family home communities as well!

I'd go so far as to say large concrete highrises are generally more robustly insulated from the effects of extreme weather and climate change than woodframe single family houses... but then that wouldn't fit your anti-development narrative.

Time-lapse of the windstorm today.
I didn't spot any flying patio furniture but heard a lot of clanging on people's balcony.

Looks like half a year after record-breaking heat, we're in for another round of record-breaking temperatures, just in the opposite direction. A lot of the models are showing another "perfect storm" of atmospheric conditions, so 2021 is going to give us some more temperatures we've never seen before in our region yaaaay

Been snowing in the River District today, really made my evening.

A Vancouver White Christmas, what an unexpected surprise, but a joyous one.

Merry Christmas Everyone, hope you have a good one.

Upcoming cold looks significant but not close to record breaking for Vancouver. We've had much more extreme cold and longer cold snaps in the past, especially before the 2000s, like in the 90s and prior decades.

A rare Vancouver White Christmas

it's -12 and the building's heat is useless, it's very cold inside. Have an electric heater but it doesn't do much unless you're right next to it.

21 more minimum temperature records broken across B.C. amid weather warnings

Quote:
Monday's frigid temperatures saw Vancouver's record break when it got as low as -15.3 C. The previous record of -12.8 C was set in 1971.

my coworkers neighbours house, sounds like their pipes froze, another coworker said the water pipes in their condo also burst in the parkade. Buildings not ready for the cold down here.

Turning the oven on with the oven door open works really well.

my room is ok, problem is when I got the shower its ice cold in the hallway, so i borrowed a little heater today, see how that helps in the am.

Expecting up to 10cm of snow tomorrow eve. The roads in Surrey are not the greatest now this extra snow won't make it any better.

The only apartment I've ever had in Vancouver that had sufficient heat had a natural gas fireplace. Everything else with electric or hot water radiant heat is a joke. And in their infinite wisdom, the city is banning natural gas equipment going forward. Just wait until they also ban air conditioning, because "climate".

A natural gas fireplace wastes a lot of the energy it uses. Any fireplace does.

My heat pump is working great during this cold snap.

Small electric heaters (fans) also blast a lot of heat and are a good backup for anybody.
