The problem is they aren't fast. One way trip takes 3.5 hours. If one is willing to pay that much, Harbour Air is faster and cheaper.

They couldn't compete with neither BC Ferries (mainstream, budget friendly) nor Harbour Air (fast and convenient) so they were essentially in no man's land.

Harbour Air is pricey as hell though (might change, might not). There's a niche for a ~$50 service... if somebody can figure out how to fill it, of course.

Unless an operator can get the cost really down (or is substantially subsidized for it), and can compete on schedule, that won't happen.

Title is "can be viable", but the article is suggesting that "it's not viable".
