From today. It looks smaller than it is because it's further away than most other buildings, but I thought it was interesting to see how it extends the skyline.

Here it is from the other side

What does "infill" mean? Nothing around this is within 250 ft of its height (for now). I'm not sure I would use that term here.

That’s not true unless by “around” you mean within the surrounding block. I suppose your point is that this is a peak for the area West of Halsted? Though when looking at the skyline, it’s a similar height as 727 W Madison and the Presidential Towers and then the skyline ascends from there.

I always understood infill as a building that isn't noticeable or sort of blends in with its neighbors. Like, if someone built a 400 footer at 130 N Franklin, that would be infill. 900 W Randolph extends the skyline to the west. You're referencing towers that are a quarter mile away. From the south, north, and west, 900 W Randolph is the tallest thing you can see (for now) that far from the CBD.

Good point. I was mostly responding to "Nothing around this is within 250 ft of its height (for now)". Mews, 800 W Fulton, The Parker are within 250 ft and close by. Though I was probably being pedantic. I understand your point. It definitely extends the skyline. It really sticks out on 90/94 whether coming from the North or South.

According to Merrium-Webster:

Infill - new buildings constructed in the space available between existing structures
Urban infill, a big theme these days in city planning, is essentially the opposite of "urban sprawl." As cities grow, planners are looking for ways to pack more people into places that are already developed.

I always personally took it as a new building in between other similarly sized or taller buildings so this new building doesn't have a noticeable visual impact on the overall cityscape or skyline.

It looks like they developed a clever system for installing window panels from inside instead of ones hung from outside dangling in the wind. I don’t recall seeing this elsewhere.

^This product is window wall and this is how window wall is installed on all buildings that use it (mostly residential buildings). Curtainwall and hybrid wall is hung from the outside of the building.

Maybe "infill" was not the correct term to use but I get his point. What he is saying is that while it is an impressive building at a decent height, it is lost and/or dwarfed in the overall skyline when compared against the size and girth of the loop. Which is very true. When I looked at the picture it took a couple seconds for me to find the building and then I was surprised how small it looks with the looming Loop to the east. In most other cities this would be a significant building. In Chicago it is a significant building for the West Loop.

Sometimes this group gets too caught up in the small stuff and can not see what the person is actually saying. That said I do appreciate the clarification as to what is and isn't "in-fill".

Loving the mood of all the black/gray brick and metal on the buildings from this angle.
