I believe that the pipe thing is used with a slurry - the muddy water filling the shaft and helping support the sides during drilling, and placement of the re-bar. The long pipe is to get the concrete through the slurry to the bottom of the pile, where it (being heavier than water) fills up the hole and displaces the slurry.

Caisson installation is wrapping up tomorrow on this one. Sheeting and excavation will start this week. Tower crane should be up by the end of June.

Odd that the big caissons appear to be right outside of the mat.

^^^ Could be that the big sheer walls they show projecting on the exterior sit right on top of the main cassions. Would be a little less convention, but totally feasible to build a building that has a few large sheer walls carrying a lot of the weight instead of the core which is what we usually see.

BVictor1, Nice photos! There is a 950 CY concrete pour scheduled for Friday (pending weather). If anyone can stop by for some photos, there should be a lot of activity. Tower crane will be set by end of next week.

Monday is my last day in town before I go to Argentina with my SO. I'll see if I can snag any pictures that day, might be hard to get a good view though since I don't have the same viewing privileges as some folks here.

It looks like Bvictor1 took those shots from the adjacent public parking garage. You can enter the garage and walk up one flight of stairs to get that view at any time for free. Too bad the garage is not a bit taller because the view will be obscured pretty quickly. Have fun in Argentina, one of my personal favorites.
