The only such thread ever seen on the forum.
I have a pretty good, selective memory when it comes to unusual things, but Idk where the thread is gone. It must go years back.

I hope you can figure where Antarctica is. It is the most remote and coldest continent in the world.
The guy just must work for scientific missions.
My Antarctic thread is here: https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=241465 (with some contributions from Pedestrian as well) , which incidentally was my last multiday trip before this one (thanks pandemic...).

Sun did not set while I was at Summit.

I had a few days in Kangerlussuaq on the way back, where technically the sun set for 2 hours, but it never got darker than "Civil Twilight"

Despite being barren and mostly featureless, I never get tired of looking at these.

One of our detectors (from pretty far away, but lying down with a telephoto):

Condition 1:

A trench we dug to put some antennas in

Snow

The lone flag

The GISP2 borehole in front of the NOAA building. This borehole was the reason for the founding of Summit Station and at the time was the largest ice core ever. They took out 3053 m of ice (and a bit of bedrock too).

It's strangely beautiful to the casual observer, but I suspect it's the kind of place where there is no time to appreciate the aesthetics.

Thanks for adding more photos! Very fascinating and incredible. I'm looking at them at work right now, and looking out my office window. I'm more enthralled with your photos for sure!

Yeah, the only beer available is some home-brewed shit. People bring liquor in their luggage but obviously beer is not a good use of weight.

it’s really something to get to see this.

the only experience i have that is close to these views was as a junior high school kid we walked out on lake erie one memorable winter when it was frozen over until we couldn’t see the shore anymore. incredibly stupid thing to do. but anyway it looked like this, except in places there were frozen waves and clear spots where frozen solid fish were looking up at you. it was disorienting and of course we were goofing around and we literally had to follow our footprints to get back. once in awhile i have still have a nightmare about doing that. stay close to camp lol!

Some of the views are really breathtaking, especially along the shore. Incredible opportunity to photograph a very unique landscape.

yeah the visibility can drop down to like 50 m pretty quickly from blowing snow. But... GPS .
