And you had to ask before taking most of these shots? Even without that restriction most of us would be hard pressed to get a set of pictures this good. And then there's the subject matter which is absolutely fascinating as others have already said. I knew about the leader worship but never knew everyone had to wear a pin.

You may as well shut SSP down now because this thread is the ultimate... the collection is complete... there's nothing else left to see.

YOU! FACE FORWARD! NO MEALS FOR ONE WEEK!

dude, this is beyond amazing. this is email-my-mom good. thanks for sharing and elaborating your incredible experience. (and your brush with his excellency.) beyond all the references to the supreme leaders, there's some pretty stunning architecture and sculpture. i dug both songs too.

did you make any effort to get close to the ryugyong? or...?

the best from the best!

Wow. My jaw dropped on the first photo and didn't go up until the end of the thread.

Amazing work.

Could you tell us a little bit about the big event at the stadium and what it was like to be there?

That newly build skyscraper will make a great military HQ when the world finally decides to put an end to this joke.

Thanks for the amazing tour!!

Brilliant job with the photos mate. To bring the DPRK into 2013 context with such fascinating and humanistic photos, it makes this isolated country that much more tempting for us SSP multiverse folks to visit. It is the work of fellow forumers who inspire others to visit hidden gems so they can experience this even themselves.

Probably the best DPRK photo thread I have ever seen. The logistics to get the paper work set and the planning and delicacy to not offend the people and authorities is a feat! Just awesome.
Thank you for sharing!

Morbidly fascinated!

Being an exile from a communist country myself I was repulsed at the thought of looking at your photos, but at the same time fascinated to see for myself what the North Koreans (who are a very secretive society) have created. Beautiful photos! I kept looking for just one person who smiled. Out of all the sad and monotone faces I managed to pick one guy out in the subway tunnels.

Brilliant photo thread. One doesn't expect to see photos from North Korea often if ever. One of the things that stands out right away in these photos is the lack of vehicle traffic. Big wide roads with no cars in sight.

I wonder how many other Americans were in the country when you were there?
