I agree. The Laurel matches the final renderings pretty well. I do think, as with most buildings, the textures are more apparent from some angles than from others. For example, the effect of The Laurel's balconies is more pronounced when looking up from ground level than it is from a straight-on shot. And renderings, by their nature, can minimize those differences in viewing angles.

Hell yes its visible in the skyline, the buildings height is substantial for the skyline. The Laurel can also be seen from the northeast between One and Two Liberty

You always take such nice skyline pictures. What kind of camera do you use?

It's also hard to see, but the tower crane for this project is also in that frame, next to The Drake

same here - i knew bits and pieces, but the engineering involved in all this is so awesome. almost makes me want to do physics homework again. oh, and hearing that tiny cranes are dissembled by hand makes me a bit more understanding of why construction timelines can be longer than expected to the untrained (my) eye.

thanks for sharing

Walked by this today; it's really hard to see what's going on much less get a picture. They have it pretty thoroughly blocked and screened off. Saw the crane, though.

^ ^ Responding to tower crane photo ^ ^

^ ^ that's a weird place to put the crane

The other end of the building is seemingly out of reach considering the boom length of this crane.

Maybe a second crane is coming? Twinsies??
or
Maybe one of the less expensive cranes which exist as an extension of the building as it rises?

My favorite observation, however, is why they choose that particular corner. I re-examined the render on page 1... The crane is clearly being erected just left of the eventual vertical rise, where a glass-clad two story section serves to "communicate" with its existing three story brick neighbor. How cute. Probably one of this projects final punch list items when the crane is down and off their payroll!
If you aren't understanding what I'm seeing, its the short glass portion just behind the second street tree (from left) in the render - a portion which just so happens to be similar in width to the tower crane's support column.

Any renders of the south facade of this building? Hoping there's not another blank wall in play here.

1620 Sansom Street southwest view by Philly SkyGuy, on Flickr

The core is in the center of each floorplan, so no there will be no blank wall surprisingly
